[ALMOST posted tot he Lounge :) ] OK, I thought perhaps it was an accident, but it turns out that the lady that just recently had octuplets ALREADY had 6 children and was on FERTILITY drugs to go another round... http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/01/30/mother.octuplets/index.html?iref=mpstoryview[^] Why don't people look around them and see that there are already far too many of us here right now. If you already have 6 why the hell would you want even one more? I get the whole thing that having a kid is a great deal. I know that, and even though it was difficult at times, I loved watching my son grow up, and I would not have traded it for anything, but come on... Anything over 2 is simply a statistical experiment, like flipping a genetic coin. OK,

Not exactly. It also shows great faith in the nanny-state. Her hospital bill will be in the hundreds of thousands (according Dr. Snyderman of NBC) and while it seems very likely she has insurance, when the insurance company pays out out like that, everybody's premiums go up. Her husband is a contractor in Iraq. He's coming home, apparently out of work, next month. What's the payout for aid to families with fourteen dependent children? Preemies that young often (not always) have physical and mental problems that mean they can never be fully functioning members of society. Although they were all able to breathe on their own a day after being born, two of them now are on ventolaters.

Wow - sounds like someone from one of India's poorer states - the poorer people are, the more kids they have. :sigh:

Not in most parts of India though - more kids usually mean more kids to starve :-(

The flip side is that depending on what he's doing as a contractor he might actually be making enough money to support that many without assistance. AFAIK Blackwater, etc pay around ~$500k/year for special forces type contractors.

Why was she allowed to have fertility treatment in the first place? If she had 6 sprogs she should have kicked out on her arse and I'm surprised that any insurance company, given the circumstances, would have either paid for the treatment or the delivery. This is one fucking selfish family: they'll expect everyone else to support them.

The only requirement for fertility treatment is being able to pay for it out of pocket.

Really? Why exactly did you feel compelled to bring it up? A moment of atheistic bigotry perhaps? Suleman is an Arabic name - how do you know they wont be attending a mosque?

To raise one kid properly is difficult, good luck to her for raising 14 of them! But again it's her life and she is free to do whatever she wants to.

I know that, and even though it was difficult at times, I loved watching my son grow up, and I would not have traded it for anything, but come on... Anything over 2 is simply a statistical experiment, like flipping a genetic coin. OK,

I think you may have been enjoying the "benefits" of State run health care for far too long. You have forgotten that in some parts of the world you can (and must) actually pay for these services without getting permission. Evidently, the lady can afford to have as large a family as she wishes. A remarkably bigoted remark on your part BTW.

Then she had a choice and decided to keep all 8. Whats up with that? Never mind, I have a feeling that I know what was up and I don;t want to start do the long potential argument road there :)

A hard limit? No. But come on man, you can only fit so many people into a box before bad things happen.

To raise one kid properly is difficult, good luck to her for raising 14 of them! But again it's her life and she is free to do whatever she wants to.

Yeah, but what quality of life can you expect as one of the children? I don't know about you, but I'd much rather be an only child than one of fourteen. At least my parents would be able to spend a decent abmount of time with me...
