Ha - not any more! You've just been reported to Her Majesty's Immigration Department. :-D Though if you are looking for pointers I hear anywhere within the M5 boudary is a good place to start, followed up by inner city Birmin'ham or Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds - heck anywhere near the Scotts, the Welsh or the French is always a high crime area. ;P

What all these article about London vs NY fail to mention is that NY has 7(?) 8(?) million living veritcally in a 7x3 mile island, and London has (NY - 1) million living in (a conservative estimate) 10 x 10 miles. Considerably easier to police :) The police need to be able to do the same here as in NY. When people can urinate in the street within shouting distance of Trafalgar Square, and nothing is done, its not surprising people get away with worse things in london. As usual, Tony Blair's pathetically feeble government can't/won't do anything for fear of offending people, i.e. the minority that now get to smoke cannabis almost legally. It's a joke. I commute into London every day, and fortunately can use the train/tube to get all the way to my office door without having to experience the 'everyday' London that everyone seems to want to visit. Goodness knows why, it's unclean and unfriendly. I don't blame Joan Collins. :( For all you CP-ers that want to visit England, spend a day in London then go visit somewhere like Manchester or Newcastle, where you'll have a much friendlier and pleasant time. And for all you Englanders reading this, I'm a southerner, and I really don't like London. Maybe I'm just a bit jaded having experienced some of London's crime at first hand (fortunately at 6ft tall, I didn't come off worst that time ;) ). I'm only in it for the money ;) and the ludicrous house prices :) B.

Don't kid yourself, the minority (especially for my current generation) smoke it for recreation at least twice a month. Okay that may not be much, but it is being used. I can walk into a certain unamed local shop and buy it over the counter from a local woman who doubles up in Safeways during the morning shift. Cannabis is harmless in 99.999% of its uses, and it may come as a surprise to some people to know that it has a huge "safety first" following, at elast round here, and does not lead on to any other drgus - even tobaco smoking. I have a motto - don't diss something till you've tried it... :suss: Anyway, where in the south is your castle? It is obviously somewhere near to London, but I assume you live in a nice community?

I'm unsure of the UK, but we have a similar setup here in NZ, All cops look like they are unarmed 99.999 % of the time. The exceptions are like SWAT type guys in action and VIP protection police with concealed weapons. When certain conditions are met, eg the bad guys have a gun, or they even suspect that a person is armed, they don't need any extra permission. A survey of our actual Police officers shows almost all do not want to carry/show firearms because they consider the way things are is better than elsewhere. All police officers here are quite well trianed in firarm use, but it is considered if the Police carry guns, then the criminals will also. The rule here in NZ is almost if you are a criminal carrying a gun you can expect to be shot, so most criminals prefer to use lesser weapons. I guess its a totally different mindset to what you are use to. Regardz Colin J Davies

Minority? ;) Same thing I meant actually. I live way out in the middle of Kent. I've lived in various parts of London and just don't care for it. I'm jaded and I admit to it :) I think I'm in the similar age group to you actually :) Just never tried cannabis and don't intend to :) The point I was trying to get across is that the police turning a blind eye to canabis in Brixton/Lambeth has lead to an increase in dealing of stronger drugs, and hence an increase in crime in the surrounding areas. Fortunately the only things I have to worry about are rabbits, sheep, and Sunday drivers :)

I'm happy to stand corrected :) I'd like to know what the 'official' size of London is, i.e. where the Metropolitan police force police, and then where the regional police forces police. I'd say the Met polices roughly to the M25 orbital motorway, which I think has an average radius of 15 miles, so that makes 707 sq miles!!! Either way the British government at the moment is one of the most feeble, pathetic, criminal friendly ones we've had since I can remember. It panders to the minorities and ignores the majority. We've had 3 recent cases of people defending themselves and their homes from burglars been put in prison. How mad is that? :(
