Information stored in Internet Explorer Desktop Shortcut Icons [modified]

I'm using Internet Explorer 7 on Windows XP Pro. My CodeProject icon's background went from orange to white and I was doing a bit of sleuthing...wanted to know where the original comes from etc so I dragged my CP desktop icon onto Notepad. Wow...have you guys seen all the information being stored in there?:

...Update: It seems that it's part of the URL file specification which can be found here[^]. It has to do with storing the URLs of frames, apparently. If you keep your icons for months or years, a large accumulation happens which I find slows the browser so it might be worthwhile to delete it from time to time.
