This is all bs. People WANT to buy a PC that works, not have to add stuff to do basics like browse the web. Most people will use IE b/c it comes with the box, AND b/c bad as it is, most web sites work with it.

Let's be honest. IE is used as much as it is becuase it comes with Windows. That's the only reason. It's easy for us (technical folk) to claim it takes nothing to install something else (we have). But it is not so "evident" for the average user. Antoher issue is whether or not the EU bureaucrats have the right to take on monopolies... as the US has and whether or not this is just another case of EU bashing.

Sure you can, but, you know, first, you can't get Windows without IE, and second, sure you can install FireFox anytime, but without Microsoft bowing down and saying "Great EU Comission! Without you, we would be evil Capitalists destroying the world! Bless you for allowing us to sell our indulgences!" Nonwithstanding any mass market PC OS without a built-in web browser would be woth no more than a giggle.
