I'm 37 and still in my prime. 40 is only middle-aged if you plan on living to 80. I say you still have a decade before you hit middle-age, but it's all relative anyway.

The term is "middle age", not "median age". Here's a sobering thought: If you divide your desired lifespan of 80 into thirds, youth, middle age, old age, then middle age begins at 27 and ends at 53. So you've been middle aged for ten years already! Watch out. You may be in your prime at 37, but the human body isn't a linear organism. In my case, the lights started winking out when I hit 40. - Owen -

Saw this phrase on the corvette thread below. I turn 40 tomorrow. I have no intention of buying a sports car tho ( heck, I just bought a prius ). I'm clinging to my youth by going to rock festivals, buying expensive guitars and playing them whenever I get a chance.

40 isn't old, sorry there are many more years after 40. My new manager's manager appears to be 30-ish. His LinkedIn profile lists his high school graduation date, which is apparently still an important event for him career wise. Whereas for me, it'd probably invite age discrimination. :sigh:

I'm 42 and loving every moment it took to get here, no regrets! I admit I once thought 40 was old until I got there, then I realized birthdays are just a celebration of all the love, happiness, friends, and blessings that have come into my life.

Hah. I turn 0x30 this summer. I had a sports car for a while, until I totalled it out. I'll get another one someday. At the moment, I've got a kid about to enter college, and that sorts your financial realities. I cling to my youth by making my body do all the things it should have done when it was younger: mainly running, biking, and lifting weights. And when it complains, I tell it to STFU and soldier.

Think 40 is a shock? Wait til you hit 70! As my Mother used to say, Oh to be 60 again! (She was 93 at the time. Me -Im still jogging a couple of miles 2 or 3 times a week in the hills. Dont have time for more -too busy developing. Trying to keep up with MS is like trying to drink from a firehose. Knock on wood.

I'm turning 26 next month and I'm already falling into despair. Time won't roll back and I'm still very far from having enough money to buy my dream car (Porsche Carrera)! And when I do I will be too old to enjoy it :sigh: Oh, happy birthday by the way. When I get to your age I will probably be on the mental hospital, I'm not mentally strong enough. Fábio

I'm not at all sure that a Prius isn't a geeky equivalent of a sports car- especially given the hacks that are in the wild for improvements such as plug-in recharging and adding laptop batteries and tweaking the internal software for faster speeds on electric only.

Here's the thing I have figured out - When you were younger if you thought 30 was old you dreaded turning 30 and freaked when you did. If you thought 60 years of age was old you passed 30 with flying colors but are dreading 60. I had a lady I worked with that freaked at 29 because the next year she was turning thirty. I personally think its how old you think you are. I have days where I feel eighteen and days where I feel I am over a hundred. It's all in the attitude!!!!!

If you can’t have fun at work, then why go to work?

LOL! I'll turn 52 at the end of March and I am known where I work for the collection of happy meal toys on my desk! Being able to feel satisfied by a kid's meal and getting a toy to boot is one of the few benefits of aging!

After my wife totaled the Grand Cherokee, we replaced it with a used Infiniti I35 w/sport package. At my age (51), I need heated seats to keep me comfy while I'm accelerating from 0 to 60 in 5.5 seconds...though, now that I've put 99,500 miles on it since April '06, it's not quite that spritely anymore :(

Swimming is probably an ideal form of exercise for middle-aged types. No impact, moderately aerobic, and if you pick the right pool and the right time of day, 'entertaining' (wink-wink, nudge-nudge).

*nods* My wife is now into her second month of water-based physical therapy, and beginning regular exercise sessions on top of that. I'll be joining her within the next week or two. If we could figure out how to (affordably) heat our pool, we'd be in it year round instead of just June-August.

The fast car is nice, the motorbike was old and spent 90% of the time in repairs until I gave up, and the young blonde (and younger redhead) each had their issues, but were a lot of fun :)

May God listen to you and hopefully someday I will get my chance. Everytime I spot on a Carrera my stomach gets all funny and my heart accelerates. And I think to myself: "Will I ever sit on that car?". I surely hope that the chance comes before I get glass bones or my nervous system's health make me go insane. I will surely try to chill a little. By the way, with what car can dust a Mustang (5.1 Liter engine)? My humble GM Astra (2.0 Liter Engine 132hp) won't even see a Mustang's dust as it will already have faded away. Here in Brazil sports car are for very few because taxes are too high. One Nissan 350Z costs about R$200,000.00 (U$90.000), imagine how much it is for a Carrera. Well, thanks for your words, they made me not loose my faith.

Saw this phrase on the corvette thread below. I turn 40 tomorrow. I have no intention of buying a sports car tho ( heck, I just bought a prius ). I'm clinging to my youth by going to rock festivals, buying expensive guitars and playing them whenever I get a chance.

I turn 0x40 in three years. I'm fitter (still canoe, cycle, ski, ice skate, walk and do Scottish Country Dancing) than I was at 0x28 (well, my right arm was stronger then from drinking British pints and Oktoberfest liters). The only thing that reminds me of my age is the arthritis in my knees, but I had that at age 0x20, too... Happy belated birthday! I'm catching up on the CP stuff missed on the skiing holiday (Austria).
