Hi, I'm looking for an open source web based issue/bug tracking facility. I want to be able to keep track of support issues (usually when a customer rings with a problem) and bugs that customers or we ourselves find. Some reporting functionality would be a big bonus but is not strictly required (yet). Can anyone suggest/recommend anything? Thanks.

A quick google gave loads of possibilities, the first of which was BugTracker.Net[^]. I've never used it, although I had heard of it. Not sure if that means much though because I cannot remember why I had heard of it.

Yeah my initial thought was that there are too many possibilities which is why I was looking for recommendations. I'm looking at BugTraker.NET at the moment and it does look pretty good. Thanks.

I've used it. It has some small issues, but is very usable and comprehensive. I only stopped using it because my shared hosting provider only allows me two MSSQL databases, and it requires one, and I needed that one for something else.

Personally, I vote for Axosoft's OnTime: they sell an Express version - 5$ for 5 users - which fits almost all our needs: beside the number of users, the two main disadvantage are that there's no customer portal (this lack is a plus for me, because actually we have no filter between customers and developers) and you cannot customize the built-in reports. We've been using it for more than a year and we are very happy with it: it's not limited to bugs and incidents, but can track feature requests and task, integrates with SCM... but if you want check it at www.axosoft.com[^] . We also tried Bugzilla, but - that's my own personal opinion - they are comparable as a car and a bike can be: before someone flames me, I know Bugzilla is totally free and not users limited, while OnTime is a commercial software. Moreover, I tried Bugzilla after having tried OnTime so my expectation bar was set to a rather high value. Cheers

Hi I've been using bugtracker.net on various projects at various companies for the last 3 years or so. It is easy to set-up, fairly easy to make changes to and overall I would recommend it, especially at the price. The main negatives I have found are you certainly wouldn't want "clients" to see it because it is not pretty, and if you want to use it to track multiple projects I don't think it really supports having specific attributes for each project so some of your dropdown's end up with unnecessary values in them. But assuming you are a .net developer it is a good way to go. Andrew

IMHO trac (trac.edgewall.org) would be just good for you. However, there are some more analogs, such as JIRA, Mantis, Bugzilla, TrackStudio (some of listed are not opensource).

A good opensource one is Bugnet. Check it out to see if it meets your requriements. I have used it in the past and it is good and reliable. I have had no crashes so it is well tested.

I've used both trac and bugzilla. They will both do a great job of tracking issues/bugs of your software projects. Trac however adds some important features like project management, Subversion integration and a built-in wiki. I would recommend taking a strong look at both Trac & Bugzilla.
