    Shut the computer off

Whoa, back up there. "Shut off the computer"? I don't get it. I've googled it, and posted some comments on Facebook, Twittered the subject, checked out some blogs and even did some browsing through Wikipedia but I'm still not understanding what you mean by "shut off the computer". Is this some kind of new Cloud or Web 3.0 service thing?

      Just found this.

      1. Do you get more excited about your work than about family or anything else?
      2. Are there times when you can charge through your work and other times when you can't?
      3. Do you take work with you to bed? On weekends? On vacation?
      4. Is work the activity you like to do best and talk about most?
      5. Do you work more than 40 hours a week?
      6. Do you turn your hobbies into money-making ventures?
      7. Do you take complete responsibility for the outcome of your work efforts?
      8. Have your family or friends given up expecting you on time?
      9. Do you take on extra work because you are concerned that it won't otherwise get done?
      10. Do you underestimate how long a project will take and then rush to complete it?
      11. Do you believe that it is okay to work long hours if you love what you are doing?
      12. Do you get impatient with people who have other priorities besides work?
      13. Are you afraid that if you don't work hard you will lose your job or be a failure?
      14. Is the future a constant worry for you even when things are going very well?
      15. Do you do things energetically and competitively including play?
      16. Do you get irritated when people ask you to stop doing your work in order to do something else?
      17. Have your long hours hurt your family or other relationships?
      18. Do you think about your work while driving, falling asleep or when others are talking?
      19. Do you work or read during meals?
      20. Do you believe that more money will solve the other problems in your life?

If you answer "yes" to three or more of these questions you may be a workaholic. Relax. You are not alone. Many have found recovery through the tools of this fellowship. I think 95% of the population are workaholics!

I feel that Lauren's remarks about the U.K. are fair because I see people slamming the U.S. constantly. I just laugh. Now I see very personal and aggressive attacks against her from people I respect and I'm thinking to myself... people really need to step back a bit and relax. If people are allowed to call me a scammer and "were entitled to their opinion" then Lauren should have the freedom to speak freely. I've not seen anyone bother to ask her why she's feels the way she does. I've not seen anyone try to show an ounce of respect to someone they've gotten along with here for months. Come on people. Shut the computer off and take a walk. The personal attacks on her are wrong. Dead wrong. I don't care who you are. We all speak so candy-@$$ about respecting others opinons and we do until they disagree with ours. I'm reading the thread below and I sum it up to one thing... HYPOCRISY. Come on people I see many of you acting out in a way that is not part of your normal character. Is this really what you want? I'm making this post and then I'm leaving the computer for the rest of the day to hang out with my family. When I check back I'm hoping that people will have done the right thing when I get back. Sadly I'm way more inclined to believe that things will have either gotten worse or not improved at all. It's an expressed opinion and if you eat your own dog food then recall all the times you've defended someone else's right to have an opinion. Even as I say this I know all the justifying and low votes I'll get and truly it's just a sad thing. Take care people. Wage your wars, so sure you are right. Sad times for sure.

I don't. People do 'slam' the US, but they rarely call it a crap hell-hole of a country.

It doesn't make it right but who threw the first stone? Quit acting like some neutral judge. It's all done in a spirit of self-absorbed one-upsmanship. The things people will do over the internet that they would *NEVER*, *NOT* *EVER* do in person. That's a different definition for cowardice. At least for Lauren's sake I believe the person we see here is the person we would say in person. I bet this isn't true for most of her assailants. Notice I didn't say "I know" I said "I bet" but anyway it's schoolyard brawl garbage. At least Lauren is keeping it real. None of us is a single bit surprised by her in this, that's real. Many of us are surprised by the deeds of the other participants that's ... interesting. Defend the U.K. unto your dying death. Turn around and totally dismember the U.S. and those of us who are American's know we cannot say a thing about it. Why? We'd get slaughtered. Nevermind more American blood has been shed in defense of foreign soil than all the other countries combine but hey... go ahead... kick dirt in our faces until some militant has your country in a death grip. Then sigh in relief when our special operations forces, ground troops and supporting units descend with fury on your assailants to defend your freedom. It all stinks of hypocrisy but not Lauren. At least Lauren is being who she has always been and that... that's honest. A quality I'd rather have 1000 times over any of the other traits I've witnessed here. Anyway, I happened to reply because I'm emailing my mom about something. Now I'm back to my kids, in America the land of the *FREE* and the home of many who have probably died on your soil to protect your right to have a home... or if you prefer... THE BRAVE. That's all. Just another arrogant American sighing off. Enjoy.:rose:

That's for sure. When I see that someone can't stand an "offense" against their Country I always think about Italy. We Italians are good at pointing fingers at others but when it comes to looking at ourselves we just shut our eyes and pretend we're fine. No, we're not fine, we're screwed. We're *all* screwed right now, but we'll come out this situation. I'm sure. Funny thing is, I know this woman, she (biologist) and her husband (architect) live in London, and he was fired before Christmas and she's pregnant and her job contract won't probably be renewed in a couple months. Oh, and they have a mortgage to pay. Well, actually two (one here in Italy and one in London). Anyway, I'm pretty sure that this could have happened in any other Country, including the US. It's true that "from the outside" it's hard to see what is really happening in a Country, the media filter the news and events for us so we only get some limited grasp of the situation. Here are my two cents: 1. when someone criticizes your Country, think about what he's saying because it is probably true (especially when he's talking about Berlusconi) 2. don't move to a foreign Country and then look for a job, but find a job first, then move - regardless of the immigration regulation 3. don't buy two houses if you can hardly pay for one.

If you truly believe you need to pick a mobile phone that "says something" about your personality, don't bother. You don't have a personality. A mental illness, maybe - but not a personality. - Charlie Brooker My Photos/CP Flickr Group - ScrewTurn Wiki

On the contrary, the personal attacks are right on target and very easily justified. This is her signature line: "mostly watching the human race is like watching dogs watch tv ... they see the pictures move but the meaning escapes them" And this is what she posted in response to Colin: dude get over yourself and try talking to someone who gives a damn about your thoughts and opinions It's very clear that she considers herself superior to everyone else, and has nothing but contempt for anyone who disagrees with her. She's extremely distasteful, and anti-social. And to say that WE are responsible for the negative outcome of interactions with her, is to get it quite backwards.

Woah... hang on a moment and dust the chip off your shoulder. Americans can and do defend their country to their last dying breath. No one is denying that, and there's no need to portray yourself as humble martyrs. If you haven't been paying attention Britain gets its fair share of slamming, only we are not allowed to complain without having some kind of imperialistic finger pointed at us.

Oh FFS - give it a rest. You're Italian. That means you're naturally good looking, living in a beautiful country, with amazingly sexy women, great clothes and Ferrari (my second favourite Marque). Feel free to stand up for this amazing country.

I am not acting like some neutral judge. I responded to Elaine saying not to confuse **lauren** as one of US. When **lauren** was in the US she was carping about how she was so tired of the US and the American people, and how she couldn’t wait to get out of here. That is why I didn’t want Elaine to think **lauren** was an American.

I feel that Lauren's remarks about the U.K. are fair because I see people slamming the U.S. constantly. I just laugh. If people are allowed to call me a scammer and "were entitled to their opinion" then Lauren should have the freedom to speak freely. I don't know I've done anything wrong. I'm not advocating one or the other. But it's funny, you try to calm people down and they get indignant. Oh well. That's fine. Todays events have been nothing if they haven't been humorous. I'm laughing to be sure...
