Terrible News.

So yesterday morning I'm driving to work, listening to the radio and of course they occasionally break in with news. One story was about Martha Stewart and how her Chow Chow puppy was killed in a very bad fire at the kennel she had boarded him at. I felt terrible for those animals, I have 3 dogs myself, but no living animal should suffer the way they did. Around 11am one of the programmers came into my office and had this "look" on her face. She asked if I would sign a card for her, and of course I always would anyway, I asked what it was for. A programmer in my group, John, is also a dog lover. His partner and he raise Chow Chow's, they have 3, and they are very much involved in the national dog shows as they show thier beloved animals at every show they can. They have ribbons and trophy's at work, deep pride in those animals. John and his partner are by no means rich (I know what he makes as he's in my group)...not even close to it, and it amazes me how they spend so much of what they have on these animals...children really. John had 2 of his "children" at that kennel for breeding...1 has died, 1 is so burned it's not expected to survive and it's the female with puppies. I cried... :((

I expect to get one voted for this but here goes. It is sad that there was suffering, but at the end of the day they were only animals, relatively easily replaced. What I find more interesting is that they went there for breeding. Sounds like a dirty weekend.

It's sad, but honestly your compassion is worth a better cause. Did you feel at least half as depressed when you read this[^]? I love dogs, but I hate dog shows, dog birthday parties, dog hairstyling, dog clothes and all that BS. I hate anything that's artificial and insults their animal nature. Fell free to down-vote.

I don't believe you lose man points for crying after killing another living thing unless it's done wearing camo in the woods and you intend to eat it.

True I guess, as easily as human life. So make sure the next time you run into someone you know who has lost a child to tell theim to buck up, have a weekend fling and just pop out another. As for the breeding, they're trained to handle that up there, more equiped. My post was to share in the loss of a FRIEND... I don't bother to vote on what I see as someone rightful opinions.

I was sharing a story about a FRIEND who experienced a great loss and you're wanting to politicize it? My compassion runs deep for a great many things and I can have deep compassion for a friend as well as many other people/animals/countries/etc., but you're better served asking Ilion for a better repsonse to your post, not me. I have no reason to vote on your post.

Oh I have killed a lamb and eaten it when I was in the Army. That was fine, I was going to eat the thing, not for sport and I was very humane,(Bullet in back of head). I didn't cry then.

More often than not (but curiously, not often enough), a dog can be someone's treasured companion, and a valued member of the family. I've certainly met more dogs that were worth saving than humans... My wife and I volunteer for the local Golden Retriever rescue group, and the worst part of the job is when we're called to the local animal control facility to get pick up a golden, and we have to walk past row upon row of throw-away dogs. It's a dirty rotten shame.

I myself love dogs a lot, but not as I would love children; that's going too far for me. So terrible news is a bit too much for me here.

Yes! I can go out and BUY one. Something that is not normally done with humans, although it happens but that is a different topic. Better, I can go to the animal rescue centre and get one there. The feelings of loss are real, but should be got over more quickly than those from the loss of a human life. I too have lost animal friends. I too was extremely upset. I got over it by getting another. And do you know what? I found I couldn't do that when my Mother and Father died. Get a sense of perspective.

I would have maybe phrased that as, I have met humans less worth saving than many dogs. However the sentiment is the same. What I have problems with is the putting of animals, and animal life above humans, and human life.
