Well, today Obama rounded up all the credit card purveyors (they're almost as sleazy as your average congress critter) and started to work on them. He wants them to lower their interest rates and fees (raising them has been how they tried to stay liquid in an economy of defaulters) so they can start asking for Tarp money themselves. According to a couple of talking heads, the next major crisis is going to come as cc companies have to start writing off a whole bunch of debt regardless of what interest they charge. Other than the Mob's shylocks, is there is any other lending organization he needs to get his hands on?

I think we need to pay attention to what is going on in France. I read an article that described how electrical company (gas as well) employees are demanding a 10% pay increase and it can't happen. the result is that employees turn off power to neighborhoods, lock the substation and run like hell. how many times will you put up with no electricity because some idiot thinks he's worth 10 more in today's world? and you're right, re: nationalization of banks. gives 0 absolute insight into everyone's finances and the ability to balance inequities. read that as, I had more cash than you up until today. the step to really fear, given all the above, is silly shit like it is difficult to find .38 rounds.

That very thought has been running through my head for months now. And I find myself feeling less and less that that thought is irrational. I bought a gun for Christmas, and have horded away about a thousand rounds. I keep a couple grand in small bills in a safe now. Even bought a couple books on trapping and cleaning and other survival topics. I can really picture a time when we have no services or help. What worries me even more is a huge wave of Mexicans coming this way to escape whatever starts happening there. Millions of poor hungry deperate people who likely never had too much concern for others wellbeing to begin with. I hope it doesn't come to that, but I see it becoming more and more of a realistic possibility. And what is it with .38 ammo? I know it's been impossible to find here as well. Lucky for me, I need 9mm and .22.

Careful there, you're in danger of being seen as a neocon with opinions like that... Personal responsibility is not a liberal tenet, at least not in today's America. You're supposed to want the government to take care of things like that.

The supply of money. Money is not an abstract concept that can be treated separately from the sphere of commodities; money is itself a commodity: in a free market, money is the kind of commodity that is considered most exchangeable. Which returns right back as a direct result of consuming. Henry Ford had to deal with recession in his day and his solution was to give all of his employees raises and ecourage them to by Ford vehicles. It worked. That increase in wages led right back into his economy. He got it.
