Hasn't the government bailed out the airline industry at least twice now?

Chrysler once, way back in the way back. that was in the form of a loan that was repaid. I'm not sure I can recall anything similar for the airline industry, but my memory isn't what it once was.
Mike - typical white guy. The USA does have universal healthcare, but you have to pay for it. D'oh. Thomas Mann - "Tolerance becomes a crime when applied to evil." The NYT - my leftist brochure. Calling an illegal alien an “undocumented immigrant” is like calling a drug dealer an “unlicensed pharmacist”. God doesn't believe in atheists, therefore they don't exist.

I just found an interesting link about at least some of the bailouts that have been given. click here[^] Do any of these ring a bell? I wasn't even born for some of them. I was wrong about the airline industry being twice according to this site

New York and the Savings and Loan industry. I didn't remember what happened with New York but I thought they were given very limited help then told to pound sand. The S & L stuff didn't bail out the S & Ls, they went away, the money may have gone to CD holders, etc but I can't be certain. thanks for the link, interesting info.

Much of it was uplifting and inspiring. I especially liked the part where he said, that he and his administration didn't want to look back or litigate the stupid mistakes made out of fear and lack of forethought by the previous Administration. I'm really glad he is so focused on the future, especially, as he has reminded us a few times each week, he inherited all of his problems. My goodness, if he looked back, he probably would have to remind us that everything is Bush's fault a few times each day! He's made it quite clear that he intends to work with Republicans and listen to his critics and, of course, he made all this clear in a hastily arranged press conference deliberately designed to preempt Dick Cheney's speech. Bi-partisanship is such a wonderful thing. ;) All kidding aside, I may disagree with the man quite often, but I just have to admire his political skills. Watching him work is like getting a chance to hear Heifetz in person or watch Picasso at his easel.

Yep, I may not have agreed with the man, but Hitler sure had a way with words.

we have a republic with the only powers available to the central, Federal government limited to those specifically enumerated in the Constituition. No where in the Constituition is there a power to decide winners and losers, which is what is happening in the auto industry. this limitation is further strengthened by the 10th amendment. all the preceding has been ignored since the time of Woodrow Wilson and individual states, the possessors of powers not enumerated in the Constituition as being those of the Federal government, some 21 thus far, have passed legislation or resolutions restating that fact. the net result is that we may be heading for some rough, very rough times as states begin to assert the above. there was one such resolution passed in the Indiana senate but ignored in the house, there will be legislation introduced in the 2010 session to reinforce the 10th amendment.

Compared to another reply, yours is of encyclopedic proportions. Thanks for clarifying. I tend to agree with the conservatives who are angry with their tax money being handed over to big corporations who have failed and prone to fail again.

So you don't take pride in your French heritage?
My point was your deliberate use of "Le Frenchy" as an insult. This is obvious from the fact that many of the Americans posting here, espcially the conservative kind to which you seem to belong, despise anything European, particularly French, as if it was written in the Constitution. It is your freedom to not like them, I couldn't care less. But your use of insults outlines your lack of hability to oppose a solid argument. In fact, you seem to be a dimwit, and you also seem to recognize it by choosing the name of a rather primitive processor as your nickname. Everybody posts something stupid from time to time, but in your case, it is a trademark.

A. He's not a conservative. Druggies, whatever else they may be, are npt conservatives. Ask Dick Cheney - or Stan. B. I don't despise the people of Europe in general or of France in particular. I despise the European Union'd bureacrats and the French Government - and I don't have much respect for the war record of the French armed services in the 20th century, either. C. It's not in the Constitution - though I think Dick Cheney floated the idea of an amendment to that effect in 2003. ;)

Just as a matter of legal drama, I would love to see a case go to the Supreme Court along the lines of that the legislation, asserting the primacy of the states and the people themselves - as written into the Constitution by the 10th amendment, is unconstitutional. If the law was struck down, we could hear the laughter of Alexander Hamilton and John Adams from beyond the grave as they saw the the look on Jefferson's and Madison's ghostly faces.

you notice absolutely zip. The Magic Negro has defined the techniques as torture, Cheney defined it as enhanced interrogation techniques, that saved lives. do pay attention.

yes, as misguided as it was there is now a Democracy where there had been a tyrant.

I know you're just using the term to troll, and the observation I'm about to make has been made many times before, but by continuing to parrot that neo-con, "magic negro" crap, you paint yourself as a huge jackass, mired in 1950s-era bigotry. A male Ann Coulter, if you will. And we already have one of those. Just saying.

And I could say a Happy Meal is a unicorn and rainbow sandwich that bestows immortality. That wouldn't make it so.

Sure he does. His reputation, and thus his value to the corporate interests he continues to represent.

I couldn't agree more. With what I've picked up from commentary (no, not news), while not necessarily probable, it is more than remotely possible.

I know, the Hitler card is as played out as the race card. Another thing we can thank dems for. But I can't help it, that shoe fits toooooooo well. And I did rather enjoy your analysis of his speech. It was an inappropriate place to drop the card, but I get so tired of hearing how he's about to break it off in the tax payers ass and dump on every patriot that fought, bled and died for what this country stood for, but he sure gives purdy speeches. Even FNC is all over that band wagon. Every time I hear anything like that now, bile wells up in my throat and Hitler speeches come immediately to mind. So sorry, I wasn't venting at you, just venting.
