shame on them, having a day off and not spending it posting things in the lounge
Just goes to show how many people post in the lounge from work rather than working. :~

normally i spend my days at work checking the lounge every hour for new posts and new rants... though i never post anything myself but today no one seems to be posting why wpf sucks, or having a vacuum cleaner in the trunk of his rented car, even DD hasn't posted his daily CCC which i'll never be able to solve. Is it a national holiday or something, or is everyone so hard at work they can't find time to post anything in the lounge.
I don't like the Sucks meme (we had one the other year) but this was a genuine, spur-of-the-moment rant.
Cheers, Vikram.

1. Think of it like a break. Surely reading CP is healthier than going for a smoking break? ;) 2. If it were a holiday, I'd probably be hanging out elsewhere, not posting.
Cheers, Vikram.

I do but I also wonder what management thinks about it.

It certainly is. Hypocrisy is everywhere in the workplace. Just think what your boss would say if you decided to go out for a 10 to 15 minute walk every hour. Think of it as a fresh air break (depending on your location). Unfortunately, smokers are accommodated in the work place beyond what would be tolerated for other, often healthier, behaviors. I am not saying that this is fair but it is reality. My being a contractor only increases the need for me to not appear to be doing things that are not work related during my working day. If an employee complained to my management that I was spending time on CP for non work related activities it would cause problems regardless of my productivity. And yes, I know that there are a lot of work related things discussed in the lounge, like VisualStudio, Office, etc., but it would be hard to explain reading and/or posting to topics like "why working sucks today" as being relevant to my work.

In the UK, yes (which explains DD's absence) - the company I work for gives us the Tuesday (tomorrow) off as well as the Monday, which is nice :-)

Don't you guys have internet at home? Holidays are no excuse for CP absence.
You really gotta try harder to keep up with everyone that's not on the short bus with you. - John Simmons / outlaw programmer.

Piece of string & tin-cans, mate - that's the UK telecom infrastructure - and as it's raining (it's a bank holiday, it must be raining), the string's soggy, so bandwidth is limited :-)

we can only hope..... I haven't read that forums around here much to know. I thought I was the only one who thought WPF blows.
