An important quality to have in a supreme court justice

Really? You don;t happen to have a citation, do you? I just spent 15 minutes trying to find something even remotely close to that from Limbaugh. On the other hand, there are a bunch of Republicans who seem to assume what you find uniquely Rushian and I find rather patronizing of you. But then again, I don't listen to talk radio very much.

Don't be silly. If there's a true conservative speaking for other conservative out there, it's Charles Krauthammer. Rush yammers on saying whatever get him ratings.

Yeah, ol' pilonidal cyst is gonna scare me. Stan what scares me is the number of people who have stupid-ass ideas like bailing out GM and AIG, or criminalizing the selling of any and or all insurance of any kind.

I sure as hell hope he is being paid well for that, he deserves every penny of it.
You don't get it, do you? He isn't paid for any of that, he's paid to sell his sponsors' product. That is the beginning, middle, and end of it. He panders to those who can't think, won't think, or are afraid to think and he does a great job of it. He sells a lot of soap. Just like Ellen Degeneres or Oprah.

The term came into use because callers would frequently begin by giving praise and thanks to Limbaugh. Knowing that the caller’s and listener’s time is valuable, one caller simply said roughly "ditto to what those guys said (how much they enjoyed the show)." Thereafter, callers were encouraged to simply say, “Dittos,” and then get right to their point. Thus, long-time listeners would begin their calls with “Dittos, Rush,” leading to the term “dittoheads.” [^]

He made a comment to that affect yesterday - the hispanic community is not monolithic. You'll just have to trust me or join his 24/7 subscrioption. He's been citing Patton a lot this week "If everybody's thinking alike, somebody isn't thinking..."

Just my own belief. I stand by it. I've never dealt with an honest insurance company, and never expect to. In fact, I don't believe insurance companies, especially health insurance, can be honest and still earn a profit. They have to convince you that you are safer if you give them your money because everyone else is also giving them money and they will give it back to you if you need it. For example, I found a leak in my home a couple of years ago which had caused some significant wood rot. The repairs cost me upwards of $5000. But my home owners insurance wouldn't cover it precisely because wood rot was involved. Thats not covered by the policy as it turns out. Well, sure, the most common problem a structure made out of wood is likely to have is obviously not covered.

Actually, Jon, I think I understand the basic concept guite well. But Limbaugh hold's an audience by passionantly articulating a very uplifting message

Thats not fake.
Yeah, nobody else in the history of radio has ever been able to prepare material for a two-three hour live show and pull it off without reading from a teleprompter or reading verbatim from notes. It's not like he discusses current events, reads from newspaper articles, or takes calls, after all (oh wait). Beyond that, if you think that Rush's shows just kind of magically throw themselves together without any work because it's *gasp* from his heart then you just might be a little naive.

Sorry, jon, the notion that Limbaugh is a fake is ridiculous. The man clearly believes in the things he says. Merely because the man has found a way to be paid for doing it is hardly a valid criticism.

Well, except that I wouldn't vote for Rush to be dog catcher. He is simply an articulate, passionate defender of conservative principles. In an age of such powerful leftist forces assaulting so many institutions in our society, it is hardly surprising that the modern phenomenon of talk radio would occur. Limbaugh is simply a guy that found a niche and exploited it by doing something he would be doing even if he were not being paid to.

Well, I believe that you believe he does, but that doesn't really mean it's true. You're not the most objective judge, seeing as how completely you buy into what he's selling. And jokes aside, he doesn't really walk the walk he talks, but damned if he's not good at making excuses about it.

Big deal - that's his job. I've seen well-researched actors/radio personalities go on for hours at a time about various subjects they have absolutely no belief in if the money is right or if it creates the right amount of controversy. I don't consider this good evidence that he believes what he says, just that he's great at what he does - divisive rhetoric, being very knowledgeable about current events, and having an excellent knack for picking the issues that are most likely to resonate with his audience.

So democrats proclaiming the war in Iraq a failure, screaming it at the top of their lungs, calling the president of the United States a liar on the senate floor, doing everything possible to undermine a military commitment they signed off on - none of that is divisive at all. But some clown on the radio truthfully commenting on their vitriole, now thats just going to damn far? Thats all you've got? That's Limbaugh's big crime? Actually, that is proof of precisely why Limbaugh is, in fact, so important. He is one of the few people with a national stage willing to stand up to the other side.
