This is to put everyone on notice that my website was hacked several times in the last 2 days. I made a list of everyone--email,name, website, etc-- who posted a negative comment about me and I have turned that list over to my attorney this morning with instructions to turn that list over to the F.B.I. I have requested that my attorney file a formal complaint with the Computer Crimes Division of the F.B.I. in Washington, to investiget the destruction of my website. I have further instructed my attorney to hire a private investigation company that specializes in such crimes to determine who did it and to file a CIVIL lawsuit against that party or parties for $20 million in damages. You have simply created a problem for everyone on codeproject and I am sure they do not apprecaite your actions that have made them suspects. But bill, is litigation an adequate form of defense? perhaps you should consider securing your website more. Or doing less stuff that triggers "negative comment[s] about [you]". And, since not everyone comes from the united states, your civil suit is a bit worthless. And you really think that the FBI should give up investigating homicide, kidnapping, terrorism etc to spare resource to catch some teenage cyberpunk who hacked your website? here's a bit of advice: the FBI doesn't give a shit, unless you can prove damages in excess of $5000 US. trust me, i've been there. -c

Actually, they have good reason.,.. ever seen the movie "Wag the Dog"? What if the FBI wants to make a 90 minute war movie that they will pass off as a real event and use it to cover something up, or as an excuse to go to war, or something? I wouldn't want it to happen to me (if I had a website - must get round to creating one), but I was just saying that I think he is going in the wrong direction and doing it the wrong way. If you were hacked then I assume you have logs that will show exactly who it was, when the attack occured and what happened. We get attempted hacks in the order of dozens per minute, ranging from port scans, known vulnerability attacks to brute force password guessing against our FTP server (which is hilarious since it's not actually turned on). Actually the government can do a lot. But not really via any direct means. The economy is like a huge black box with 10,000 knobs. Unfortunately, the government can only tweak 100 of those knobs. The biggest problem is that people expect the government to be able to twirl a magic wand and everyone wakes up the next morning with everything fixed. We are only now getting into the time where the Bush administration's actions (or inactions) are starting to effect the economy. For the most part we are still suffering from Clinton's inability to take any action. But I can't say that Bush is doing any better. He has become singled minded (IMHO). But then again, you can't really blame Bush or Clinton for the scope of the current mess. Sure, Clinton's government agencies were woefully inadequate when it comes to monitoring business. But how much does a president really control that mess. Sure, he can place a different moron at the helm, but a ship floundering of a reef is still floundering regardless of the captain. Regretfully, I feel I will be one of those who will have to see more direct proof, or god forbid another direct attack by Iraq (and I'm an atheist).
