Another pay cut

The only issue I see is, how do I account for that to the tax office ?
Talk to a good accountant or maybe a financial planner, I'm sure there are many "opportunities" to reduce your tax :)

I have no clues about your laws but could it be as simple as "disclose everything"? I've got an offshore account or two. But, I've always disclosed everything about the income and it's sources to the 'tax man'. And, I tend to depend on an attorney far more than my accountant for making sure everything is up to code.

That's the smartest thing I've heard you say. I have 11 acres, and we grow enough fruit and veg, as well as raising lamb and chickens, that we could feed ourselves if we needed to. More people should grow at least some food.
CaptainSeeSharp wrote:
If there was a drought how are they going to spend that money on food then huh?
Wow. My money is not given to poor people, it is used to fund aid such as food, seeds, sources of water, to help people to be able to feed themselves.
CaptainSeeSharp wrote:
That is called globalization and free market. You supported your politicians when that was happening.
Not really. I mean, it wasn't something I was ever asked to vote on. I tend to buy locally made, even though it costs more, as I've said before. Voting with your wallet is the only choice we get in all of this.

How do you manage to tend all of that while spending so much time in the US?
Chaining ourselves to the moral high ground does not make us good guys. Aside from making us easy targets, it merely makes us idiotic prisoners of our own self loathing.

I wish he had done a better job on my wife. I can't even keep up with the weeds on my 1.5 acres and my job is less than 15 miles away. I'd be happy to grow a garden but I can't eat all the stuff my retired neighbors dump on us as it is.

He lives in Tasmania where everything is a bit slow. He can spend a month the US and only be away for two days of Tasmania time
Oh, Ok. That makes sense then.

Honestly, I do a poor job at the moment. I have several beds in decent order, a lot that's rough, and some that just needs work. I hope to turn that around over winter this year.

That's kind of true. My father in law does a lot of work, and he takes his share of the crop in return. If there was no way to buy food tomorrow, I could feed my family and his, just by putting more time into what I have already built up.

How are your peaches doing? This year I finally followed the advice of my wife's uncle, a commerical farmer, about growing them with little to no chemicals. It looks like I'll be canning several pounds after I thoroughly gorge myself. He has also helped considerably with the squash; by the end of the summer my neighbors will be sick of squash.

So, the Australian dollar bought 60 US cents at the start of the year. I am paid in USD. It went to 70 cents when Obama started printing monopoly money for the bailouts. As of this morning ( post GM, I guess ), it's at 82 cents. My wage has dropped by 25% since the start of the year.

Hey Christian, you work form home, you spend 4,000 dollars on a desk and chair, you regularly take your family to the disney, as well as flying all round the world tyo rock concerts, and you have a shed load of spare cash to put into shares. There are some peoplel here, not me since I am also reasonably well off, that might find your bitching about 'how little money you earn' an insulit. Basically, wind your neck in and stop gloating.

Which is why I am not in favour of massive welfare in my country. that's also why you can't have my money, by definition of where you live, begging makes you exactly what you're describing ( I know you were not serious, but, I am using the example ). My point is, you don't seem to realise how there are places where people plain cannot eat, and not because of laziness. Or even how your own prosperity is based on their poverty.

And in a lot of other countries. I understand that some public welfare is good, if its (in theory at least) the type that can get you back on your legs. The system would try to advocate the "teach a man how to fish" ideology. Sadly, people look for a free lunch and grumble when they can't find it.

I'm constantly impressed with how your view of the third world is so close to reality. Many others, for some reason and I guess its the media, aren't as well informed as you are.
