Yes, I can see how taking a moderate tone is going to cost Obama all sorts of popularity amongst war mongering Americans.

"And I consider it part of my responsibility as President of the United States to fight against negative stereotypes of Islam wherever they appear." -- Barack Obama, Cairo, June 4, 2009[^] [ text of speech as released by White House to USA Today[^] ] So here's the new and improved Presidential Oath of Office: "I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, and fight against negative stereotypes of Islam wherever they appear. So help me Allah."

He is trying to reconciliate 2 worlds. It is certainly worth trying. And if it succeeds, it will cost far less than war.

Thank you for the English lesson, I often make that kind of mistake.

I hope you understand that I was not being snide or making fun of you. Your English, compared to my French, is infinitely superior. (I save my snide remarks for the red-blooded Americans who prove conclusively that they don't know how to write, speak, or spell their native tongue.)

I believe he was indicating those words are not part of the oath, HOW in Gods name can that make him intellectually dishonest?

The Zero's assertion is "And I consider it part of my responsibility as President of the United States to fight against negative stereotypes of Islam wherever they appear." It is *NOT* "part of [one's] responsibility as President of the United States to fight against negative stereotypes of Islam wherever they appear." John Carson -- being intellectually dishonest -- *chooses* to ignore the point being made. What's your excuse?

Do you consider that it is part of the President's responsibility to, say, tell the truth or avoid incurring excessive debt? Neither of those is in the Presidential oath. I understand that you don't agree with the President fighting negative stereotypes of Islam, but the President chooses to take on many responsibilities that are not Constitutionally mandated. Obama is simply informing the public of one such responsibility he has decided to assume.
