For the past 20 minutes I've been trying to load CNN.com, one of my morning dozen each weekday. It loads a blank, white page! Every other site I try works great, so I can only assume that CNN is having "issues" today. In radio and TV that's called "dead air" and it's so expensive in lost ad revenues that 30 seconds of it can result in a new program manager. I wonder what 20 minutes of "dead air" in webspace costs?

I guess that in this case the most appropriate term would be "dead spider".

Maybe you're being redirected to the weather report for Siberia.

I have just tried it from here (Japan), and the result is the same as you reported. BBC is not having any problem, though. It is possible, the recent accidents have caused many to go online for information. Best regards, Paul.

Someone should throw a couple of black cats in, to set up the range finder.

Let I = Impressions per month on CNN Let P = Average ad CPM rate (cost per thousand impressions for a single ad) Let N = Average Number of ads per page Average Dead Air Cost Per Minute = I.N.P/(30 x 24 x 60 x 1000) = I.N.P / 43.2E6 Random searching found that I = 1.7 billion, N is, maybe, 2, P is 13. So cost per minute is $1023, so $20,462 for 20 mins. However, this assume every potential ad impression is sold, which it probably isn't. It also doesn't take into account lost readership as people go elsewhere (so less potential ad impressions) or lost goodwill from advertisers

The black cats are on the right, they have been frightened by a large killer marshmallow, so they have turned very pale - that's why they are hard to spot! ..... I am sorry .... I appear to have gone completely mad ..... Monday is a long day .... and I think it is going to be a loooonnngg week .... :-D

Thinking of CNN. My parents have spent some time in China at a wedding recently. Now this was the first time that they have been to China, but according to them, but whilst in their hotel room. The television literally blacked out for the duration everytime the CNN channel (or any non-local channel) mentioned the 2oth anniversary of the TSM. Then suddenly reappeared when the clip was done. I for one am grateful for the media I have access to in the UK, and the Freedom Of Information act. I don't how long the authorities in China monitor/read ahead any broadcast, perhaps someone knows...?
