Help! Need codez, urgent, plz! Ok, it's not actually that bad. However, I just got a Danish system spec thrown in my face. Since I'm Swedish, I can grasp most of what's in there using my contextual 6th sense for the "Scandinavian language". But there are two words I can't properly parse:

    • vægter
    • optælling

Any Dane around? A Danish to English translation would suffice perfectly - since today's task is to deepen the human knowledge of Danish. Update: Got it! Thanks - I also Googled "watchman" etc. but felt that it was out of my context - I now realize it works! And the second one is some kind of count or tally - great!

Google translation (if you haven't tried that) says "Watchman" and "Count".

Here's my guess (based on Afrikaans, which is very close to Flemish). vægter = wagter = guard (or watchman) (or maybe it could be fighter) optælling = optelling = count or sum or total of something

His spec says to count the watchmen? Is he writing this for the Danish secret service?

For that one I had the same thought process. But

Guard in Flemish = 'bewaker', so I didn't get it on my own. I find that google is very accurate for most languages (that I try'd), except for romanian/bulgarian.

Having seen the translations, it is obvious in english! Vægter - becomes V er cgh ter becomes W echt er becomes watcher or GUARD and Optælling - becomes Up Telling (telling in this case like a bank teller) thus a tallying up, or SUM Now I have 2 new Danish words, to add the only other Danish Word I know. Barnebarn - Grandchild!

I'm thinking there could be contextual item missing here unless you really need to count the guards.

bewaker and wagter have similar phonemes. Anyone could have made the connection.

Well, maybe the register should actually be called the accumulation, and the ALU the accumulator.

I actually got the first one right away: "Wächter" is the German word for guard...

I'm thinking there could be contextual item missing here unless you really need to count the guards.

Counting the guards or guarding the count? In the the second case it could mean keeping count.
