Help! Need codez, urgent, plz! Ok, it's not actually that bad. However, I just got a Danish system spec thrown in my face. Since I'm Swedish, I can grasp most of what's in there using my contextual 6th sense for the "Scandinavian language". But there are two words I can't properly parse:
- vægter
- optælling
Any Dane around? A Danish to English translation would suffice perfectly - since today's task is to deepen the human knowledge of Danish. Update: Got it! Thanks - I also Googled "watchman" etc. but felt that it was out of my context - I now realize it works! And the second one is some kind of count or tally - great!

Having seen the translations, it is obvious in english! Vægter - becomes V er cgh ter becomes W echt er becomes watcher or GUARD and Optælling - becomes Up Telling (telling in this case like a bank teller) thus a tallying up, or SUM Now I have 2 new Danish words, to add the only other Danish Word I know. Barnebarn - Grandchild!

I'm thinking there could be contextual item missing here unless you really need to count the guards.

Here's my guess (based on Afrikaans, which is very close to Flemish). vægter = wagter = guard (or watchman) (or maybe it could be fighter) optælling = optelling = count or sum or total of something

Guard in Flemish = 'bewaker', so I didn't get it on my own. I find that google is very accurate for most languages (that I try'd), except for romanian/bulgarian.

bewaker and wagter have similar phonemes. Anyone could have made the connection. :laugh:

I actually got the first one right away: "Wächter" is the German word for guard...
