Actually we are celebrating the capture and execution of a traitor. We burn Guy Fawkes in effigy.

England gets to have all the fun when it comes to effigies. Try doing that in the US and it's a "Hate Crime" :~

They burn one guy's effigy, from hundreds of years ago. In India, you're nobody if you haven't had your effigy burnt. Politicians, cricketers, bureaucrats, religious leaders, you name it.

In America, they set off fireworks to celebrate the birth of a new government. In England, they set off fireworks to celebrate an attempt to blow theirs up!

In America, they threw tea in the ocean to start their independence as nation of savages.

Don't attribute to stupidity what can be equally well explained by buerocracy.

You should watch it. It's one of my favorites...

Natalie Portman with a shaved head is worth it. The rest is nice.

I'd read it first, as the book is far better. Film's still good though.

An even better idea, would be to read it. Alan Moores work has a lot more impact in its original form. :)

Contemporary effigies are burned in Lewes, Sussex, UK. 2008 was Uncle Sam (somewhat Obama-like) and Alistair Darling.

Curious point - when the rebels lose, they're called traitors, but when they win, they're called patriots. Can I assume that you're not a fan of V For Vendetta?

... and they still can't make a decent cuppa.

probably, but my copy/paste source had it as a single line.
