Dell Latitude E6500 vs. Lenovo T500

I am in the market for a laptop and am comparing the Dell E6500 and Lenovo T500. I need something I can install multiple versions of Visual Studio on, leverage Virtual PC for multiple customer environments and probably have some flavor of SQL Server running. As far as specs go: Proc: Intel core 2 duo P9600 or better Memory: 3gb DDR3 Screen: WUXGA 15.4" Wifi: Intel WiFi Link 5300 Drive: 160gb 7200rpm Video: independent processor and memory I appreciate any comments or feedback about these 2 models and specs for a laptop that will accomplish what I intend.

I was given a T500 model at work. I returned it. It had a screen res of 1280 x 800 :( and the slowest hard disk in the world. Just make sure you get a nice hi-res screen, and a snappy hard drive.

That's about 85 dpi... Get at least 1680 x 1050, else you have no vertical space for programming code.

First, a 160gb drive is pretty anemic. You should get nothing less than 250gb... Second, get a machine that can be upgrade to 8gb of RAM if possible. Third, go here and see what people are saying about those two models: http://forum.notebookreview.com/[^][^] Lastly, see if NewEgg sells either one and look at the customer reviews there.

You do know that we DON'T have access to your servers don't you? All Most Some denizens of Code Project, being people of an outstanding order spend their time downloading and researching all of the high quality content in the articles that are posted on. Why, the 5 gazillion versions of SQL helper classes alone take up 3 TB on our machines.

I have 6Gigs of RAM and a 500Gigs HDD on my home pc and it runs Vista X64 with 4 VMs (32 bit XP and Win7 for testing windows stuff and Ubuntu 9.04 and OpenSolaris for testing cross-platform code). Having given these VMs a reasonable amount of HDD space each, I really wish I had opted for a 1TB drive instead.

If I wasn't playing capacity chicken with my pathetic 60gb drive at work, I'd probably have a 160 close to being full with VMs.

I went with the Dell Latitude E6500 based on price. When I ran both systems thru the purchasing wizards, the Lenovo came out $300 more. I ended up buying a refurbished unit with: Intel Core 2 Duo P9550 (2.66 ghz) 250gb 7200rpm drive 4gb DDR2 RAM Intel Wifi 5300 NVIDIA Quadro NVS 160M thanks for all the responses. Joe
