what?? how do you use twitter without a cell phone? I know there are websites, but isn't the point to be able to do everything with SMS?

Although you can do it. I don't want to use SMS for twitter. I don't want to pay for the junk messages first of all and it does not appeal to me. Twitter is a website and there are several tools to use it and that's what I do.

Using Twitter to launch a restaurant.[^] After using twitter for a while, I have the following conclusions:- 1. If you follow updates from certain people you do learn a lot. I have gained good bit from Guy Kawasaki's tweets as he posts about Entrepreneurship, sales, marketing, funding etc which interests me these days. 2. It is a good marketing tool. I am sure there is a lot of junk on it but the trick is to properly shield yourself from the junk. My only concern is that it might be a bubble that may burst all of a sudden.

Namaste (or Vannacum) Sri Rama, An interesting thread. I have yet to Twitter, and I don't think I ever will. The idea of it, to me, is equivalent to letting a horde of strangers be all able to talk in terse sentences directly into my ears any time they want. Yes, I'm an old crank now, I guess. This quote from the link to Kawasaki's article you posted : "This is year three of Twitter. In a sense, it’s like the Internet was fifteen years ago. Remember when people said, “Why would I go to a web site when newspapers and magazines come to my house, I can see people in person or talk to them on the phone, get driving instructions by looking at my AAA map, and buy books by going to the mall?” That’s where we are right now." I find truly hilarious. One thing the ebullient former jewelery salesman from Hawaii never lacked was astounding grandiosity :) If Twitter is the future, I am antiquity ! best, Bill

"Many : not conversant with mathematical studies, imagine that because it [the Analytical Engine] is to give results in numerical notation, its processes must consequently be arithmetical, numerical, rather than algebraical and analytical. This is an error. The engine can arrange and combine numerical quantities as if they were letters or any other general symbols; and it fact it might bring out its results in algebraical notation, were provisions made accordingly." The key difference is your ability pic the strangers and pick what you want to listen. It is no different than all the numerous websites out there. People are making noise everywhere on Internet but you chose to visit this site because it happens to give you some value. In the same way you pick and chose what you want to follow on twitter.

Isn't that also the rule of thumb when spending the night at the Playboy Mansion? Or maybe that's a different rule I'm thinking of?
