A bit funny and sad that you have to qualify your "states of mind" expression.

Cheers, Vikram. (Proud to have finally cracked a CCC!)

If someone suddenly offered to finance you a couple of million dollars for you to create your dream application, what would that project be? It has to be something you've always wanted to work on but never had the time or resources. For me, I think it would be the ultimate suite of reverse engineering tools.

Well not so much an app as an os, a bunch of apps and hardware. May as well call it a wishlist: - Code a port of linux aimed at designers and developers. - With a fully functional Adobe Creative Suite 4 app running in it. - Create an affordable high res touch-screen graphics tablet like wacoms new tablet but cheaper. - A Home automation suite of software.

I think I'd like to create an elaborate application which sits on a users machine, and insults them occasionally. It's not something that would cost millions to create, or take a particularly long time to build, but who cares... I'd then take the money and dissappear... In reality though, I've worked in too many places with chronically poor data and IT systems. I'd like to build a good one for somebody. A complete, reliable and easy to use, company wide package. I'm yet to actually find somewhere that has this, and I'd love for somebody to ask me to do one. Not really very exciting, but it's something that I would really enjoy doing. (I suppose it's just me wantin to prove a point) :-D

oooo, the Jedi's will feel this one....

I'd build a computational knowledge engine that would logically prove to executives how and why everything they say is stupid. It would have the unique feature of being able to break down the complicated $6 words like "specifications" into a form that they can actually pretend to understand. This would save programmers hundreds of millions of man-hours around the world.

I have nothing against VB or .NET; all Turing-complete languages are respectable. It just seems that some languages attract one echelon of programmers, and other languages attract an entirely different echelon of programmers. :P

If it's for a one man team (i mean only me) then sorry but i'm not that stupid to accept such a proposal. Finance means you have to give back in return and the more you get the more (quantity OR quality) you have to output. If i can hire a team then sorry again but there is no such thing as a dream project, only dream TEAM. If i can sum the best in the field, i can do whatever ... Not to be offensive cause i really like the hypothesis of your question but the problem is not money. It was never really about money. It's about time. Give me 24h a day without having to work for food/rent/gas/water/power/ccard (not that i have one), ... etc (for me and my family) and i'll work not only on my dream project, which currently i don't know what it is, but i might also take yours as well ... :-p

hmmm. That would be very handy... If you need a hand with that.... ;P

I'm lucky enough to actually work on this very same project on my construction company. Sometime though, i do feel like it's gonna go for nothing because it requires diciplined people to work it. Building something like that in theory is nice but practical problems kick in immediatelly making it extremmely hard to make it flexible, easy and fast enough to cope in a full blown production (hell) line of a mid class company such the one (and million others) i'm working in.
