That is very true. however a good wedding can help set off on the right foot. Plus the presents and the inspiration form the day can help.

Inspiration? I can understand somebody wanting presents (I don't agree with it though), but inspiration? If the man and wife don't have have what it takes to make a marriage work, I don't see how a grand wedding would serve as inspiration. :suss:

That's just over $1000 per month. It's possible I suppose - depends what they calculated into the mix. 1/3 of groceries? I just know it's not additive if you have more than one child. 2 kids cost less than $2000 per month. I have 5 kids and I KNOW I'm not spending $5000/ month on them. The more kids you have the cheaper they become. - Also the older they get, the cheaper they are - Diapers and Formula cost more than buying a trumpet for your high-schooler.

I have bothered to read the article, but I heard this reported on the radio yesterday. That report includec the tidbit that a major portion of the cost is for housing. Well, you have pay for that whether you have zero, twelve, or anywhere in between children. Seems like a misleading headline.

You should leave 2 tickets to Vegas and some wedding chapel brochures. It's less subtle, still only a fraction of the price and sorts out the honeymoon in one ;)

Same here, except her ring was a tad lot more expensive. Otherwise she's a very frugal woman :D Planning a 10 year renewal in a few years, hopefully on a beach with all and sundry present.

 I assure you, she (and probably your mum and her mum and any females in both families involved) would sacrifice you on the nearest make-shift altar. It'll become more gruesome the closer it is to the wedding. Still funny though  Here, in the Middle East, getting married is a back-breaker. I coughed up my life savings for: 1. a house (3 bedroom apartment) 2. the wedding (about 23,000 JOD not counting the miscellaneous expenses and the honeymoon) (that's just over 19,000 GBP) 3. the bridal gold set (this set me back 13,000 JOD alone) Its expensive, but if she's the one, its so worth it :)

Unless you're an idiot buying a house strictly as a status symbol as a single person/childless couple your house is almost certainly smaller than that of a parents house because you don't need as much space. Then factor in that since you have no direct use for an excellent school you don't need to pay extra for a location that offers one.

I agree with that. Like I said, I haven't read the article so I don't know the details of how they arrived at the figure, but including housing seems like it could skew the figure drastically. One child in million dollar house, three kids in a 200K house, etc. I guess I'd have to check out the article to know, but I can't be bothered because I couldn't care less. :)
