      A little over the top obviously, but he has some points.. Such as DRM being evil (it is, it's not just "we want to make money", it's "we want to make money AND severely restrict you in ways that would be illegal if they weren't digital")

        DRM in Windows only has effect if you have *purchased* DRM-protected media. I've never purchased DRM-protected media for this reason.

        If you truly believe you need to pick a mobile phone that "says something" about your personality, don't bother. You don't have a personality. A mental illness, maybe - but not a personality. - Charlie Brooker My Photos/CP Flickr Group - ScrewTurn Wiki

          Nor do I, but should it be there in the first place? IMO it shouldn't - it's more like something to put in DVD player software (which will then of course be hacked, which I won't say is bad)

            Well the problem is with Blu-Ray discs manufacturers (Microsoft, for once, is not included): they require HDCP for playing HD movies which in turns requires the video and display drivers (and the monitor of course) to explicitly support HDCP, thus the need for some hooks in the operating system. That's the reason why you cannot play Blu-Ray movies on GNU/Linux.

                It won't be long before you can. Someone will come along and hack it (and then the keys will be invalidated, found again, repeat ad nauseam, just like the CSS debacle)

                    He's just pissed that he didn't have the idea of Windows first so that he could have $40bln in his pocket, like Billy-Boy does. And he's so daunted by the prowess of the Mighty Microsoft that his brain has been fried. He can't think of anything to make money for himself. Complete Moron!

                        you don't have to use WMP. there are plenty of free or inexpensive players on the market.

                            I really will never understand why there is so much people in the world that are completely pro-Linux or completely pro-windows... I like both of them, having Red Hat 5 in my server has saved me a lot of money and it works like charm (when it doesn't want to kick me in the a##), and having all the workstations in windows gives me easiness and compatibility with all the apps that everyone out there uses (but users are always crappy even if things are easy)... But this is only my opinion and the way I work, aaaaaaand I don't want to make any other to think like me, I've chosen and if other people wants to take a side its their problem... What I feel ridiculous is this amount of stupid things that Microsoft guys say about open source and the amount of stupid things the open source guys say of Microsoft... (of course it is more frequent to listen to that last case). Now I'll go back to my job...

                                        A bit of a repost, I'm afraid; this was in the Insider (I think) last week. IIRC, the general conclusion was that this guy is a complete douchebag (as opposed to a partial one), and should remove his head from Stallman's anal orifice.

                                        Software Zen: delete this;
