We had a Trash-80 in the house for a while too. But I learned programming on a Vic20 and C64. Did basic there then straight to machine code (no assembler :( ). Then selftaught C/C++ on the C64, when to a C128, and finally a DOS PC. Steve Maier, MCSD

Seems there's been a few personal 'polls' lately ... (long hair, etc.) ... sooo.... I would be interested to know what the average age of the people hangin' in the lounge is! Me first - just finished uni, @ 20 :-O. Most of our dev team is within a few years of this. NB ;P

Thank you! I started with a Commodore 64. It had a cassette tape drive for storage and I used an old TV for a monitor. My first "real" programs were done in dBase on those old green-screen, dual floppy drive, suitcase sized Compaq "portable" PCs. Ah, those were the days... Jack

I started on the Commodore 64 also, great little machine. In fact, last Christmas I went to buy a Nintendo 64 game as a present and absent mindedly asked for the "Commodore 64" section. The guy didn't have a clue...

And I started (without jokes) on the first Russian computer "Ural 1" - lamp monster making 100 ips (it's not the mistake, not Mips !). It's reader worked with the punched film tape, agglutinated in endless loop (like Mobius band), and my first program (calculating e in x power by means of Taylor series) was written in codes. And nevertheless, you're absolutely right - those were the days ! Regards, Gennady

22, I cant really remember when I started to code, my parents always had some sort of machine ling around... I remember a TSR-80, Vic 20, Tandy 1000... not a single one ever had a hard drive!! even my first 386 did not have a HD! I just finished my first year of uni, sold my (small) company last year so I hope I’ll be able to get through school dept free... as long as I quit buying so much beer ;) Have a good one, -Ben "Its funny when you stop doing things not because they’re wrong, but because you might get caught." - Unknown
