Kazaa

I was just thinking, kazaa allows you to download from several people at once, but i thought you can only download from 3 at a time, yet it manages to download from 5 or more at a time

Sonork | 100.21142 | TheEclypseI prefer bearshare myself. I believe with Kazaa, you can change the option for the number of simultaneous downloads. Haven't used it in a while.

I downloaded kazaa 2.0, it still sucks. It has severe resource leak problems.

Sonork | 100.21142 | TheEclypseprecisely. there are things you can do though - for one thing, take anything you have downloaded and put them in a different folder - no point having your bandwidth chewed by people downloading from you. Also, make sure to exit from Kazaa when you aren't actively downloading - that way others can't find you. ;)

Todd Smith wrote: However, there was a bug in IE that limited it to 2 or 3. Its not a bug, IE is simply enforcing the HTTP 1.1 spec for a maximum number of connections per server. There is a registry setting that will change this, you can find it on http://www.speedguide.net/[^] in the Win2K/XP Tweaks section.

Sonork | 100.21142 | TheEclypseYou get 100% participation level by downloading yourself a big file (over 800Mb) using the localhost technique I have shown. Kazaa 2.0 exclusive only. Also KazaaLite 2.0 has been released lately (ad free).

Agreed. If you don't share, it's unethical to use K*z*a at all.

If the max connection is per server, how can you tweak that setting on the client? /M

When I see an uploader doesn't share any (valid) file, I generally eject him/her. Use overnet instead :) Before you criticize a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way, when you do criticize him, you'll be a mile away and have his shoes.

problem with programs like Kazaa - they open ports on your pc. As mine has a 24 hour ADSL connection I'm not going to trust Kazaa to protect my pc. I take my own measures, including firewalling it. In a better world I wouldn't have to, but unfortunately people will take advantage if they find a hole. I don't want my pc to be used as a robot by crackers to get into other's networks. :suss:
