Beta 2 of VS2010 and .Net 4.0 are now available to MSDN subsribers (everyone else has to wait until Oct 21 to get it). VS2010 will be "launched" on March 22 of next year. The most astonishing news are the new SKUs: VS2010 Pro $799 VS2010 Pro with MSDN $1179 VS2010 Premium $5469 VS2010 So Expensive That God Can't Afford It - $11,294 - yes, that's FIVE DIGITS in the price (MS's name for it is VS2010 Ultimate)

I'm glad they didn't just make up a price and say "$11,299". If it were that price you'd know they hadn't thought it through, but clearly at $11,294 they have done their best to scrape every last dollar off the price.

They should have scraped another $11,200 from the price. Only then it would have been obvious. :)

The only way I'd get that version is if it came with a lifetime supply of BBBBBBBB (Beautiful Blond Bimbos Bearing Big Bodacious Bouncing Breasts). BTW, the value "BBBBBBBB", when converted to binary is 10111011101110111011101110111011. This information is provided to keep the post somewhat programmer-specific.

I wonder what the SKU for that would be? Maybe someone at Microsoft will blog about it :) It would at least be a more entertaining/interesting read than most of the crap they churn out.

How does this compare to previous versions? Is this a lot more expensive? The Pro version doesn't seem to off the mark.

It's very close to the previous pricing, it's just the names have changed. Change seems to confuse and scare people ;)

The pro pricing is basically unchanged. Premium pricing is roughly inline with Team System Kitchen Sink edition. The $11k edition has no predecessor. Standard ($350) and Team System One Part Only ($2.5k) editions appear to be KIA.

Wow... Just... wow... You know, I like .NET and WPF and everything, but prices like that make me think it may be time to switch to Java.

I spent the majority of the last two years doing Java dev work with NetBeans. It was like a breath of fresh air. It works, it's stable and I was able to produce good product quickly. And it's all free.

And MS seems to have plotted a course out. For themselves, anyway. :-D (Not to worry. I hear the surplus income is being re-routed to the Windoze Mobile group. They're going to buy an Android phone, reverse engineer it, then release WM7 - Android With Bugs.) ;)

Ultimate is Team Server + Team Suite ... it costs so much because it comes with the TFS server. Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Team System Team Suite (with MSDN Premium)[^]

Now is the time I start looking for the MS launch event for VS2010 so I can score a free copy. I've had good luck so far. I've got a shiny new copy of VS for free with each launch to date. Scored Windows 7 last week the same way. Victory Stewy!

2001 is overrated. Kubric is overrated. Clark's later books are massively overrated; his early stories in Astounding are much better.
