Cell phone in the washer

Is there a slight chance that it will still work after drying out? If yes, is it possible for it to work better than before? :) Waiting patiently ...

Open it up, remove the battery, give it a good rinse with fresh water - cool or cold - and leave it somewhere warm for up to a week with the cover off. It has got a couple of things working for me in the past but I don't know if the keyboard would survive.

Hmmmmmm....well at least it'll be cleaner. I dropped my old Nokia in a drink of Ribena[^] a few years back. It still worked - so there's hope :-D

Try salt, if it works with drowned flies, it must work with a phone :)

Probably best to get a new phone. Even if it works for a while, you never know when it'd fail (most likely when you need it most).

I assume the salt suggestion is a humorous reference - that I don't get. In case the anyone else is as dense as I am - salt is absolutely to worst thing you could use if you hope to recover the phone. It will promote corrosion. IMHO the best chance of recovery after dunking a phone is to remove the battery and as soon as possible dunk the phone in iso alcohol (not drinking alcohol) for ten minutes, then dry for several days. Iso alcohol is frequently used for cleaning electronics and will displace most of the water. It also drys quickly w/o promoting corrosion. Good Luck

So long as you didn't have it set to Fluff'n'Fold there is a slight chance that it will work again if left to dry naturally. If your plan has an upgrade system, I'd jump at the first opportunity. :)

Depends on the phone. As long as you removed the battery and left it to dry for atleast 24 hrs, you have a chance. I have seen many washed phones work.

These things won't work after an accidental drop in a bowl of thick lentil soup. I don't know about water...

Call yourself from another telephone and see if it works. I recently found a usb drive in a dryer. It had been through one wash cycle and two dryer cycles, it wasn't mine. I was able to read it and get the owners telephone number from a resume he stored on the drive. Happily the drive and the owner have been reunited, much to everyone's surprise.

I wouldn't recommend he do that. If he does he should try a land line telephone, they are usually difficult to get into the washer due to being attached to the wall outlet.

That's nice Henry, but what should he do? It's all well and good you jumping about the gaff, but he doesn't have a phone to use. Tsk tsk. Honestly.

Yes, that's a good point. I think this should be included in the user manuals.

I will give you an update on this later, if the phone works fine I can probably sell it on eBay as a water-proof cell phone and making a profit! :-D
