Do you still buy LPs?

I just got my first (well first 4) LPs today! It was the AnotherLateNight Tommy Guerrero unmixed 3LP set and a 1 of 1000 additional one featuring a mixed version of Come Together (the Beatles classic for those that don't know) and some stuff read by Sir Patrick Moore that I haven't listened to yet. So now I can add some vinyl to my music collection -- and oh what music this is! They say if you don't dig this compliation you may actually be dead, and I am inclined to agree. In fact if you don't dig it I may just kill you to keep your genes out of recirculation for the good of mankind. If you can't play or don't want the vinyl release you can get the complication on CD from Amazon[^] or your local music store. The CD release includes everything on one CD though obviously you loose the satisfaction of bragging to your friends like this. ;P And do you know what is best about this - it didn't cost me a penny. Not one. I won it all last night from a student radio station I listen to (the Late Show @ www.sbn.co.uk). Unfortunately the only turntable I have access to is on my mothers really old hi-fi system, and mine at home doesn't have a turntable (the bastards!). Looks like David will be browsing eBay this afternoon looking for a new hi-fi. :-D So to make this more than a public announcement of my happiness today (sorry Christian but someones gotta be happy) my question is as the subject: do you still buy LPs? Either new releases or classics - DJ's not allowed to answer 'cause that would be cheating.

I still buy vinyl. Mostly new releases. If I must choose between a cd and lp, I'll take the lp version. I just love the feeling of putting a vinyl record on my turntable. Nope. Record player broke some five years ago. Went to get a new stereo and couldn't get a nice one with a record player. So I figured, time to move to CDs. Hung on to my LPs for a while as potential collectors items but they all started getting dusty, I couldn't be bothered to find somewhere decent to store them (most of our storage space is taken up with boxes of comics) so I sold the lot at car boot sales. Sold them for £1 each the first year and got rid of about half, went down to 50p the second year and sold half of what was left, got sick of carrying them out last year and was practically giving them away. One guy bought the dregs of about 10 LPs for £1. One man's trash really is another man's treasure. Ahh, vinyl. <fondly remembering the clicks and pops throughout favorite songs> Nope. I gave all my old LPs to my brother, and that was like 10-11 years ago. Enjoy it! Good Luck finding a good turntable. A CD feels sow.... plastic. And it's nice to watch the turntable while listening. And it is serious stuff. A lot of HiFi nuts prefer LP to CD for quality and so the turntable manufacturing market is quite good, on the high end of course (I saw one for 12000 pounds!)

I also love putting down the turntable needle, you line it all up and get a good feeling when it gets into place. What you pointed out is also a good reason why I will probably never want to read books on PDAs or e-readers or whatever. Love the feel of handling a book.

No, dont buy them (where do you buy them btw?), have nothing to play them on. But i think they should replaces CD's with LP's for computers. Wouldn't it be cool to have an eg. Windows 2000 LP? ..and then you could do some scratching when installing to get a completely custom W2k installation. :) /Magnus

Seems to be a rather limited collection though, at least in terms of modern music; not really surprising as people expect at least an hour of music on a CD nowadays but LPs start degrading at more than 45 minutes.
