So, a little over a week ago, I posted about how the office was a ridiculous 85+ degrees because of a broken air conditioner... Actually, it turned out they were doing a "steam trap" test on the building, which only made me want to pummel the building staff with the secondary A/C unit that overloaded in the ridiculous heat. So, in the process of doing this "steam trap" test, they also managed to break the electronic thermostat for our floor, which is actually a totally obsolete system that would cost a large amount of money to replace... Apparently it's so old, no one knows how to fix it. The solution? They put it on manual, and turned the A/C up full blast... All of last week, the office was about 60-65 degrees. Just cold enough to be uncomfortable. Now, Monday morning, it feels even worse. I am literally shivering... How interestingly coincidental that I saw a rerun of "Lewis Black: Black on Broadway" this weekend on HBO... One of his little bits went something like this, edited to conform with KSS guidelines... "It's so cold, that I can't even finish a sentence. I can't even finish a simple thought in my-- #(%&# it's cold!" That's how I feel right now... Trying to do some upgrades and maintenance on a system... "Ok, so I can just add in a table here, then hook it into-- #(*%&@# it's cold! What was I doing again?"

Heh... Man, I'd even settle for my G15 right about now... We have Bloomberg keyboards here, and they're horrible... Not the least bit ergonomic, and I forget the term, but the force needed to press a key is like twice any other keyboard... On top of that, there are these extra keys around the arrows, so it's hard to use them by touch... Found a pic on Google image search: Bloomberg Keyboard[^]

Love my G15's. I bought one so I could play games in the dark and I liked it so much that I bought another one for my other machines so I could see the keyboard in low-light conditions.
Logitech makes such amazing input devices... Got the G15 keyboard and the G5 laser mouse, and they're both top notch.... Granted, I'd like it if the G5 came in a left-handed version, but it's still great. Interestingly, my headset and my two cams are both Logitech too... Great company.

Ah, right, Aeron... I was close. Can't speak to how well they work for bigger guys... I'm a mere 5'8/140lbs, so I'm one of the short/skinny types. These chairs just seem to be the trendy thing for the NYC financial industry, so I had one at my previous job too. I wouldn't go out and spend $600+ to get one of these at home (My chair at home was about $200 on sale at Staples), but I have to admit, they're comfortable.

As much time as I spend in front of my PC at home it'd be a better investment than a lazyboy. I'm mostly happy with the $300ish one I bought last summer, although when my current staples special breaks at work I'll probably move one level up for thicker padding.

I've never liked any of the Logitech mice I've used. The MS mice I've had have always just worked. Every Logitech optical mouse I've used (all 4 of them) periodically starts lagging and ignoring input like a filthy ball mouse that's had its spinner rods ground down by accumulated grime. Flipping it over for a few seconds fixes the problem (occasionally takes a few tries); but it never seems to get better if left on the desktop surface. I was jumping for joy when MS announced, a few months after Logitech, that it was going to make a lefty egro mouse too. Then a few months after the Logitech one came out MS scrapped it.

Don't get optical mice. Get laser mice. Laser mice are more accurate and work on surfaces that confuse the optical ones... For example, I have a black mouse pad, and my two desktops have a Logitech G5 Laser Mouse and a Microsoft Comfort Optical 3000 (Grabbed the MS one as a spare, when I got the new machine and realized all of my old ball mice were broken). The laser mouse works perfectly, 100% of the time. The optical mouse fails every few seconds... Since the desk is black too, I had to tape a piece of white paper on top of the mousepad to get the MS one to work. Oh, and I don't go near wireless mice of any type... They're just not reliable, in my experience.

The MX610 is a cordless laser mouse, i have 2 of these (it's the only lefty ergo mouse on the market). The MX310 is a corded optical mouse. The MediaPlay (its predecessor???) is a wireless laser(????) mouse. All 4 fail identically; the type of surface being used doesn't matter (I experimented extensively). That covers both corded, wireless, led, and laser models; the only things they have in common are using logitech hardware internally. The best I can say about the 610's is that they're less glitch prone than their predecessors and niether've followed the MediaPlay into a death spiral of more frequent glitches culminating in failure.

You covered everything EXCEPT a corded, laser mouse, which is what my G5 is. As I said, I don't touch wireless input devices at all anymore, and optical ones are glitchy... Mine is actually slightly right-hand-oriented, but I manage to use it with my left hand anyway. Basically... Wireless gives you inaccuracies from signal degradation and interference... Opticals have a lot of trouble with certain types of surfaces (Don't work on black, and I think they have trouble on reflective). A laser mouse will, I believe, work on anything except a transparent surface, and a wired mouse has no trouble with interference.

It's the same failure mode. Not two different ones. And good LED mice (eg those made by Microsoft, or even Dell's lowest bidder models) perform flawlessly; it's only when logitech adds their suckware that they become buggy.
