DirecTV is offering free movie weekend - I just finished Woodstock, having never had the chance to see it all before. Awesome! It seemed best to route the audio through the sound system and crank it up, so the neighbors are likely to be a bit touchy tomorrow (it's 2:00AM); so be it. It was worth it! Joan Baez pisses me off, shattering wine glasses at 10 miles with her angelic voice, and never even straining to do it. Janis Joplin was alive and well, and Jimi Hendrix hadn't yet cashed in his chips. Arlo Guthrie looked like a little boy, and Carlos Santana already looked like a jerk. I still wish I'd been old enough to attend, but my mother wouldn't give me a note to get out of class.:(( I had to settle for going to the US festival hosted by the Woz years later... Has there ever been anything like Woodstock in the years since, in any country? Word of the day: Rotundacrat

Extra Credit will be awarded for: Quasimobo...I would say in the 80ties Band Aid concerts organised by Bob Geldof came close. Few years ago they tried to organize a true Woodstock, but it turned into Rapestock as 5 women were gang rapeed in the camp during the concert. :-((( It's not the same generation. Extra Credit will be awarded for: Quasimobo...Funny you should mention that, I just turned on Encore and watched the last 30 minutes or so of it. Sad watching Hendrix play to a nearly empty mud pit. My dad absolutely forbid me to go see the movie when it came out. Me and a couple of my friends went in anyway. I called home before I went in and made up some lie about where I was. My dad became suspicious and went out looking for me. We lived in a small cowtown in western Oklahoma so he did not have to look too hard to find out that not only was I in the movie, but that I had also been hanging out at the local pool hall and drinking beer at another local hang out. Was I ever in trouble when I got home! I don't think the guy ever trusted me again. It was worth it though, fantastic film. I'm not a real reverend, I just play one on CP.

I was too young to go myself. It's hard to believe anyone who says they were there. A half-million attended, but at least 10 million have since claimed they did.

I believe the latter number includes those born or conceived there.:-D But yes, there are a lot of wannabes who claim to have been there. The US festival was awfully tame in comparison, a pale shadow of the real thing. We weren't allowed to bring in coolers or cameras, everything was overpriced, and there were cops everywhere. Woodstock was a one-of-a-kind event, I'm afraid...:( Word of the day: Rotundacrat

At first, I thought I'd like it since the 60s were so glorified in my high school days. After about 10 minutes I wanted to change the channel but thought it might get better. All I can say is that after experiencing the whole movie I am glad I wasn't around back then. I now know that the couple of people I talked to who had been at Woodstock were full of crap and dillusional for the "good old days". But the movie did help me better understand the politically correct culture we live in today. It was basically the same group of people who are self-involved and think that they are doing something great just because they think they thought of it first and thier parents were so wrong. And it will be too soon if I see another person get in front of a giant crowd and get microphone disease and start splurting off garbage like, "Hey, man. You just gotta love one another. I mean look at us. This is groovy. Open your mind and like, love everyone and we'll be alright." Gag. Gag. Cough. Cough. Granted, some of the music was good. But not nearly half of it. I guess you just had to be there (and be high as well). -- If it starts to make sense, you're in a cult.
