Illegal Use of Code

It's come to my attention that some code that I wrote and published here free for personal or non-profit use (my [Collapsible Panel Bar]) is being used in a commercial software product in Russia. Does anyone have any suggestions on how best to handle this? My first thoughts would be to email them and remind them of the licensing restrictions and see what happens. Cheers, Derek.
For what it will cost you to enforce, i'd say don't bother. Just as there are certain cultures in the world where it is acceptable to expect code to be handed to you on a plate, there are other cultures which have no qualms about theft of IP. If you don't want your code stolen, don't publish it on the net. Simples.

Definately attach one of the code project licences[^] to the article to dissuade people in the future, however you are probably stuck as far as these guys are concerned unless you are prepared for a court battle. Of course if they come asking for bug fixes etc. you don't want to help them. Nice article by the way.

It's pretty much what I expected, but I was intrigued to see what people would say :) If there was a CP license choice that prevented use in commercial software, then I'd have selected it a long time ago. To be honest, I may just make it available to anyone anyway. It's such a long time since I wrote the article, so much has changed since. To be honest, I'm surprised anyone still finds it useful ;P

My suggestion: Dont go to court in Russia, it only cost money. Write them an email. Make the language so that it looks as written from a lawer. With some luck they get afraid...

A simple line in the license section along the line of:
The code is free for use for all NON-commercial purposes, if you want to use it for commercial purpose please contact me.
That would pretty much make it clear what you want (I think)

Really, you shouldn't publish code that you don't want "stolen". Many people will respect your license, but some just won't. That's a fact that will never change.
