Apparently we're not in the same country. I've long wondered about the Dakotas... Or is Arizona the odd one? Fortunately, I'm not job hunting - just curious. :)

Well, you know what an ent is. And you know that they haven't been with any entwives in a very long time. That's where the entwickler comes in... :-D

Hmmm... I'm not fond of splinters, so maybe I don't want to know.

So what does a C# Entwickler do? I might want to move if it sounds fun, and is considered immoral in the US.

You're the second in two days to get caught by this! The reasoning is that we have advertisers who really, truly do not want to get swamped with a hundred resumes from certain countries. Countries where, historically, we see massive, scatter bombing of applications to jobs for which they do not fit the criteria, are unable to apply for due to relocation issues, and for which they don't even bother to customise their application with even the name of the company or the name of the position. I will not name those countries. Advertisers said they had had enough. Actually they said this about a year ago. We gave them the option to filter out the countries to which their ad will be displayed and they are finding the job board a lot more useful with higher quality and more relevant applicatants.

So, a special person like me planning on moving back wouldn't be able to use it to find a job? Or can I simply change the location setting on my profile and voila, I beat the system?

I doubt Jordan is on the blacklist. India is the only one for sure, and China most likely is, but I can't imagine what other countries made it.

What the heck? Viewing a job description in the Jobs section of CodeProject I got the subject line as a response! How do they know I don't plan to relocate, if I can only find a job there? How can they decide where I am in the first place? Other than the fact that I'm in the US, I mean. Besides, I really want to know what a C# Software-Entwickler (m/w) does for a living.

                          Software entwickeln, of course.

Personally, I love the idea that Raymond spends his nights posting bad regexs to mailing lists under the pseudonym of Jane Smith. He'd be like a super hero, only more nerdy and less useful. [Trevel]

Chris, A suggestion. Instead of completely blocking the ads out, you could show the ad to everyone, but the contact link should only be available for appropriate countries. So if a Canadian employer only wants resumes from Canada and the US, and wants to block the rest of the world out, and someone from India checks the job out - they will see the description, but won't be able to apply. This way someone who's soon moving to Canada will be able to get a rough idea of the job scenario there.

I am pretty sure it's IP based. So I doubt that changing the profile will work, though a proxy should work. But anyone using a proxy to see the job-ad would probably be smart enough not to apply for an unsuitable position :-)

Oh, and here's an alternate suggestion. Don't show the listing at all to those that cannot apply. Right now, they see the title, click on it, and then get the error - which probably feels humiliating. But if they won't see the jobs at all, then they won't have this problem. This should work too.
