It is a country ruled by an Extremist Religion that denies its followers the rights that others have. Mind you, they still have massive amounts of abortions, go on the early ferry from Dublin to Liverpool and it is full of young Colleens on the way to the clinics in England!

Actually it's ruled by a democratically elected government. That they choose not to repeal this law has very little to do with religion.

He he. :~ Actually, Church has a great effect in Italy too, regarding everything ranging from abortion to immigration. Everyone has the right to think and tell whatever they want, but the problem starts when politicians are explicitly doing something or promoting a law to "preserve Christian origins of Italy" (or any other religion/Country). The government tried to ban the Ru486 abortion pill because Church said it's immoral and abortion gets too easy (which is not true). As many others, I think abortion is a terrible act, but I respect the opinion of everyone and I think that it should be allowed (as it is). What I can see, generally, is that Christians try to limit your own freedom, to impose their own beliefs on you. Kind of a new middle age. :suss:

Interesting how laws are so weird. In California, we just had a case where a guy killed a woman 4 months pregnant with twins. He is being charged with 3 counts of homicide (and losts else, thank God). If a Doctor had killed them, no big deal. Are the twins people, or aren't they?

That's pretty much at the discretion of the mother. If she's willing to take them to term, yes, if not, no. If you have a particular problem with that, we can take them from her and implant them in your womb for the remainder of the pregnancy.

Bah. Ireland's head is stuck so far up the pope's ass, it's a frickin marvel that anyone in Ireland has actually seen the sun.

Huh. Thats a funny way to look at it, since nobody asked the dead mother. The government just assumed that they were people without her say so. That sure sounds like the government pushing it's way in on a woman's choice.

I would not have the temerity (guts) to say this out loud in a Dublin bar.

Neither would I. Good thing I'm not in a Dublin bar then. :)
