Ok I am confused, which competition are you talking about? The Azure competition, contest or lottery or whatever you call on CP does not have US only restriction.

Funnily the CP server that logs all the running services seems to be in UK time. I just uploaded mine and it shows under Dec 11th even though it's only Dec 10th right now :~

Ah that explains why Rama and I didn't see any "Not available outside the US" message. You only see the page if you connect from a non-US IP address.

US only. Listen up Microsoft - this is a global website. Pull your US centric heads in. I ask - how hard can it really be to organise a competition for the WORLD ? Everyone from India, to NZ, to weird foreign places where no one sensible would DREAM of living, like Christian Grauss at home in Van Diemen's Land, use codeproject, I'm sure there are even nerds in Antartica who log in. May I be bold enought to suggest that having a US only comp only reinforces the "US" and them situation ? And ...well lets just face facts, call a spade a spade and tell things like they are. This attitude/policy just isn't cool, groovy or even clever. We don't care what special reasons you might have, what the "microsoft policy is." why "its just harder than you think." Cut it out. Its Christmas time. Bryce

and heres the rather to be expected reply to that: Why roll out a US only version first? "well we're going to do the rest of the world real soon" Why risk upsetting the target audience in the rest of the world? Whether or not you agree with it, Microsoft has a public face issue when it comes to issues like this. It is, however, cool when you do a worldwide release of Operating systems etc. But releasing stuff in this way does Microsoft's reputation no good - i'd have thought this was basic marketting ? (its friday, i'm not very articulate today) Bryce

While I feel for you, do YOU want to do all the legal work in each country? The differences in laws are non-trivial, and making a set of rules that work for each and every country is probably just not worth the hassle and cost. It may even be possible, as different countries can have mutually contradictory laws, so that you CAN'T have a contest legal in all countries. Have you looked up the legality of walking down the left side of a road, with a goat, to determine if it is legal in all all cities and towns, in all counties, in all 50 states? And that is just the US. Every country has really stupid WTF? laws on their books. Lawyers do not come up with logical rules that mesh well with those of the rest of the world, they come up with weird, convoluted stuff that only they can interpret, so they continue to have job security. So, when you run the world, you can make the rules so that MS can give stuff away easy in all countries. Until then, realize that wishes are not horses.

Sorry, I don't understand the term., though the context is obvious. :-O Do you put every company under this kind of requirement, or just MS? Given they are a US company, why shouldn't they start in that market? Does Fosters have to have a sale in the US if they have it in Oz? I am no MS lover, but if you think they have to do everything exactly the same for everyone exactly at the same time, you are being petty.
