Royal Mail have created a stamp displaying a picture of Gordon Brown. Unfortunately, the stamp was not sticking to envelopes. This enraged the Prime Minister, who demanded a full investigation. After a month of testing and spending of £1.1million, a special commission presented the following findings: 1. The stamp is in perfect order. 2. There is nothing wrong with the adhesive. 3. People are spitting on the wrong side of the stamp

When I first heard it, it took some guts to tell it.

Personally, I love the idea that Raymond spends his nights posting bad regexs to mailing lists under the pseudonym of Jane Smith. He'd be like a super hero, only more nerdy and less useful. [Trevel]

Go on, I'll bite: why did it take some guts to tell?

Now that can be solved quite easily: have the image on both sides, glue on both sides too, and charge double as you now can use such stamps twice. :)

Does that mean you're licking his backside when you lick the, um, back side? ;P The real question here is: Why are you Brits still using stamps that require licking?

It would be a different joke if Erich Honecker were the target of your humour.

The unions behind the post office don't like progress in any form (apart from progress towards oblivion).

Because if the Royal Mail allowed non-lickable stamps, the CWU would view it as a modernisation and go on strike

It's strange - I know I'm better off, but also, the joke lost its bite. On a lighter note, xkcd[^].
