In the light of the previous thread - What project that is free to use have you donated to recently?

Personally, I love the idea that Raymond spends his nights posting bad regexs to mailing lists under the pseudonym of Jane Smith. He'd be like a super hero, only more nerdy and less useful. [Trevel]

I've tried to donate to Wikipedia a couple of times, but their system never accepts my credit card for some reason. Only place I've ever had trouble with it.

The question was not "Who are you". The question was "what have you donated to".

Regrettably, I don't donate to open source projects, what with donating to charities such as the National Deaf Society, The Childrens Society, PDSA and quite a few more. I'm kind of tapped out in the donations stakes.

I find these things equivalent, in a way :) Our benefit from open source projects may be more direct than the benefit from the efforts of charities, but the pattern is similar.

I always wondered who donated to those things.

I hadn't seen me donating to a high-profile project such as wikipedia a month ago. I'm ambivalent about it because it's kind of "replacing the internet" - but the donaiton was for the times I look up a specific algorithm, formula or scinetific term. There are few places on the internet that have the necessary amount of rigor yet attempt to be accessible to a layman.

Paint.NET, InfraRecorder, TortoiseSVN. I prefer to donate to niche projects as they're less likely to get donations. But yet again, how can a few dozen Euros/Dollars a month can make the least difference?

I'm very tight for money at the moment, but as soon as I have any spare I will donate to ScrewTurn wiki. I use it all the time, aside from 1 issue I have had recently it "just works" (not something I say lightly), and Dario has given support in the forums when I have tried to fix the 1 problem I have had. For free. I would recommend that anybody looking for their own wiki take a look at it, and donate some money when they find that they like it :) Chris

I donate 120.00 month to a program that helps families in my local area who are in need of help. 100% of the money goes to those in need. This Christmas, I gave an extra 800.00 to that same program. I donated 500 to the Veterans of Foriegn wars this year. I think I'm done donating for the year. :)

And yet also provide an avenue for people that couldn't get into law enforcement a way to abuse authority. :) A great thing to donate to!

IZarc -- just gave them (him?) my second donation; first was a couple of years ago. Still my favourite zipper! (Hmm, now there's a statement that could be misinterpreted!)
