In the light of the previous thread - What project that is free to use have you donated to recently?

Personally, I love the idea that Raymond spends his nights posting bad regexs to mailing lists under the pseudonym of Jane Smith. He'd be like a super hero, only more nerdy and less useful. [Trevel]

Every year I volunteer as a cook and server at the food bank for Thanksgiving. Also, I give to them monthly. And earlier this year I donated to Arch Linux.

It's not a project as such, but I donate a considerable amount of my time, energy and money to Camp Quality. Tangible, and making a difference. ;-)

Thanks. I do change them occasionally when I come across a gem that registers with me.

Regrettably, I don't donate to open source projects, what with donating to charities such as the National Deaf Society, The Childrens Society, PDSA and quite a few more. I'm kind of tapped out in the donations stakes.

I find these things equivalent, in a way :) Our benefit from open source projects may be more direct than the benefit from the efforts of charities, but the pattern is similar.

I hadn't seen me donating to a high-profile project such as wikipedia a month ago. I'm ambivalent about it because it's kind of "replacing the internet" - but the donaiton was for the times I look up a specific algorithm, formula or scinetific term. There are few places on the internet that have the necessary amount of rigor yet attempt to be accessible to a layman.

Paint.NET, InfraRecorder, TortoiseSVN. I prefer to donate to niche projects as they're less likely to get donations. But yet again, how can a few dozen Euros/Dollars a month can make the least difference?

I'm very tight for money at the moment, but as soon as I have any spare I will donate to ScrewTurn wiki. I use it all the time, aside from 1 issue I have had recently it "just works" (not something I say lightly), and Dario has given support in the forums when I have tried to fix the 1 problem I have had. For free. I would recommend that anybody looking for their own wiki take a look at it, and donate some money when they find that they like it :) Chris

I donate 120.00 month to a program that helps families in my local area who are in need of help. 100% of the money goes to those in need. This Christmas, I gave an extra 800.00 to that same program. I donated 500 to the Veterans of Foriegn wars this year. I think I'm done donating for the year. :)
