It looks like we've got more to be worried about as there seems to be a new smiling-face-planet in the solar system, plus what appears to be a few cross sections of a tree. What do they teach kids these days... :-D

Obviously, it's a dual-purpose commercial... They're also trying to convince kids that Astronomy will take them to their own little "happy place"... There are just too many jokes there, and so few are KSS...

Yes. Yes they do. Case in point: Most of us use their products.

I was actually thinking about that. "Hey look, Jupiter is hanging out next to that SMILEY FACE PLANET THE SIZE OF EARTH!!!" Seriously, looking at it, we are the only option there that has that crap thrown in.

Why am I getting lyrics in my head now? "I'm hung like planet Pluto, hard to see with the naked eye, but if I crashed into Uranus I would stick it where the sun don't shine."

That wasn't really that awful, relatively speaking (this IS Microsoft, afterall). I actually enjoy using Visual Studio!

Oh that is rough. Who thinks this crap up? Worse, who lets them do it?
It's the same guys that thought pairing Gates and Seinfeld in a commercial would be funny.

Sure, you like it NOW... But if this is their advertising campaign, imagine the product a few years down the road...

Advertising agencies aren't interested in moving the merchandise for their clients. Their top priority is to create clever ads that will win ad industry awards, thus enabling them to raise their rates. Honestly. That's a serious answer.

I agree. X| OT Change subject: "Why Visual Studio 2008 sucked yesterday" I can tell you why Visual Studio 2008 sucked yesterday for me. So I finally decided to use VS 2008 for my C++ project I am working on. With cmake the project generation and upgrade to Qt-4.6.0 went without any problems at all and my code compiled fine with VS2008 in the new 32 bit VC.90 build tree I added. I experienced no problems until I had to search and then BANG "Visual Studio has experienced a problem and needs to shut down". I restarted Visual Studio and had the same effect. After searching there is supposed to be a fix in SP1. I applied that yesterday and will have to see if it's still broken.

I really like how the whole page is about Visual Studio 2010 and yet the ad at the top has a picture of VS2008. What, they couldn't manage to do a mock up of what the 2010 box would look like?
"The computer industry is the only industry that is more fashion-driven than women's fashion. Maybe I'm an idiot, but I have no idea what anyone is talking about. What is it? It's complete gibberish. It's insane. When is this idiocy going to stop?" -- Oracle CEO Larry Ellison

Look at it this way. It's actually a fairly smart tactic. We're all talking about the stupidity of the ads, rather than the bloated crapitude of the product. By the time we notice just how big the VS2010 accretion disc[^] is, they'll be hawking VS2013.
