Ok, this is probably going to sound a little odd, but... Does anyone know where I can purchase an out-of-service Boeing 747? Yes, I mean the real thing! It does not need to be any more than the shell though, with seats and stuff still in it. I need it to look just like the ones that fly around, even internally (within reason). It would be preferable if it could still be driven though, as trying to tow the thing behind a Ford Fiesta would be a little tricky :). I am also in need of some F15/F16/F18 fuselages with the cockpit panels still intact (but the electrics aren’t necessary). These ones can be damaged internally, and externally, but must still be ‘enterable’. And before you say: “This guy is either joking or insane”, I have a perfectly legitimate use for the aforementioned aeroplanes (that’s ‘airplanes’ for you Americans). Obviously, these are going to set me back a fair bit, but I am not planning to pay from my own pocket - I need reasonably accurate estimations to aid me in preparing a portfolio for my latest entrepreneurial (try spelling that at 11:30PM) scheme, to raise the required capitol. That is all I am saying about that. So, one of you must be able to help me... David Wulff dwulff@battleaxesoftware.com
G'day David, Gee, and here's me thinking I'm overly ambitious hoping to afford a Lancair 4 one of these days... :-) Seriously though, have you tried contacting Boeing? I expect they keep pretty good track of where their products go in order to send out SBs, ADs, etc. Steve

http://www.tradingpost.com.au? :) C'mon David - you can't just make a request like that and then keep us in the dark! cheers, Chris Maunder
I took a look at the site you suggested, but they didn't have any classifides(sp?) for commercial airliners :). And I'd love to tell you all why I need the information, but I can't risk someone else realising how incredibly brilliant my idea is, and jumping in before me. P.S. Did I mention that the F18's must have the sidewinders attached, and the 747 must have the new USM-CAMMS (United States Military Commercial Airliner Missile Mounting System) fitted? David Wulff dwulff@battleaxesoftware.com

Actaully, contacting them hadn't crossed my mind. I'll try to locate a UK phone number and give them a call in the morning. Thanks for the suggestion. What about the fighters? I can't just call the US Airforce and ask if they have any old models lying around, can I ;) David Wulff dwulff@battleaxesoftware.com

Wow, that makes for an interesting web search. I might even take this one home with me. At any rate, at a cursory glance, I'd start somewhere like here: http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/cold.war/experience/the.bomb/route/06.amarc/ Maybe that might give you some leads. I can't even count the number of movies I've seen showing fields of abandoned aircraft. Surely there's a way to buy some of it. However, I think getting anything more than a fuselage will be quite an effort and as for your request for missles... ;P ;P

You could also try contacting movie studios. On the Universal Studios tour here in LA, they take you past a big yard where they keep tons of old vehicles, since they never know when they might need one someday for a picture. (packrats!) Some of the bigger studios may have plane fuselages around - it couldn't hurt to ask if they'd be willing to sell. --Mike-- http://home.inreach.com/mdunn/ The Signature, back by popular demand: Buffy. David, As far as "Just Call the US Air Force" goes. The answer is yes you can. Awhile-back Pepsi offered a gimmick for a number of bottle caps for prizes. The top one was a Harrier. A group actually acquired the number to ask for it. Pepsi’s response was, you could actually own one. They call the US Government and received a letter of permission so long as (at that time McDonnell) did not include the military electronics it was fine. I think a rental may be a better option:) You may be surprised.

The planes that get "blown up" in the movies are actually rentals from a company that rents planes to blow up. They know how to do it and have them avaiable for reuse. Dunno where to start, one of those late night discovery channel tidbits.

Well, I don't know if it might be useful, but Iberia (the Spanish flag airline) just wants to get rid of some old 747. I think calling them would do no harm, wouldn't it? Their web page is www.iberia.es (sorry, I don't know HTML and don't want to learn it) :-)

Maybe http://www.airwarbirds.com/ could help you out. I know they sold a old but functional Swedish fighter last summer. The buyer payed somewhere around $40.000 US for the airplane. The full story can be found here http://www.expressen.se/article.asp?id=38956 (only in Swedish, i'm afraid...) Mikael Edlund

LOL! Getting fed up with programming are we? :) Do the aircraft need to be flyable - where do you want them? I can't really see a B747 landing at Exiter - Tristars have, but... I remember reading about loads of aircraft being "wrapped up" for storage in Arizona, and a lot of these aircraft were for sale. I can't remember what the company was, but I do remember they had all sorts of aircraft - B-47 all the way to Gulfstreams and 707s. Cheers, Peter

The point is you CAN own a military jet if the correct components are removed and you have the qualifications to fly (or if it is not being flown.)

{grin} I (think I) remember when The Castle was released that they (The D-Gen/Late Show/Panel squad) had been contracted to write/do 3 movies. Has there been any mention of the others?? (I have been in the US for the last year and a half) Have fun, Paul Westcott.
