Hmm.... I think something like this is more the thing:

In the cyborg's case, I think it's more of a 'has-a' relationship than an 'is-a' relationship.

Strictly speaking, an android is a subset of robotic beings. Specifically, it is designed to look humanoid. George Lucas suborned the term in Star Wars to refer to anything that we would view as a mobile robot, be it humanoid like or not.

I ran across a couple of posts on CP today that requested new sections on robots and androids. Now, here's my question. What is the difference between an android and a robot?

The word Robot comes from the Czech word 'Robota' which means Labor. Following the actual meaning of the term, a robot is nothing more than a machine specified to do actual physical labor work. An android comes from the Greek word 'Andros' which means 'Man'. Although the word 'Android' focuses in the Human nature and not the particular differences of the male and female gender, it's clear that it doesn't relate to a Robot since nothing in its definition implies that it performs any labor or even moves for that matter. Artists today create androids from scrap metal. In ancient times we could say that statues were androids made out of stone, marble, gold, ... etc.

It's colder, the food is bad and the people not nearly as friendly as "they" would have you believe but on the plus side you can earn a boatload of cash and travel extensively for relatively little. If you work in finance/banking (and you're good) you can earn close to ZAR1M p/a. Not a bad old life, I can tell you.

Consider this:
- South African citizens need a work permit to work in Ireland.
- South African citizens DO NOT need a visa to enter Ireland as a tourist and can stay here for up to 3 months sans permits, etc. Working is not allowed.
Although I'm skipping a number of details it would be entirely possible for you to apply to a few positions, lining up interviews over a 2 - 3 week period, fly out, do the interviews and discuss work permits with interested potential employers. It would, of course, be the decent thing to let them know that you'd need a work permit up front. My philosophy is that opportunities are made, not found. Good luck. http://www.irishjobs.ie/
