Trek die kant toe. It's colder, the food is bad and the people not nearly as friendly as "they" would have you believe but on the plus side you can earn a boatload of cash and travel extensively for relatively little. If you work in finance/banking (and you're good) you can earn close to ZAR1M p/a. Not a bad old life, I can tell you.

But fortunately we have the nanny-state politicians who can step in to protect us poor stupid consumers, most of whom would not know a JVM from a frozen chicken. Bruce Pierson

I'd move to Ireland at the drop of a hat, given an opportunity.

        Consider this:

        1. South African citizens need a work permit to work in Ireland.
        2. South African citizens DO NOT need a visa to enter Ireland as a tourist and can stay here for up to 3 months sans permits, etc. Working is not allowed.

Although I'm skipping a number of details it would be entirely possible for you to apply to a few positions, lining up interviews over a 2 - 3 week period, fly out, do the interviews and discuss work permits with interested potential employers. It would, of course, be the decent thing to let them know that you'd need a work permit up front. My philosophy is that opportunities are made, not found. Good luck. http://www.irishjobs.ie/

Oh yes, I'm not waiting to be offered a job in Ireland, just building toward an area where I can afford the time and money for a trip like the one you suggest.

There's lots of interfaces one can attribute to Android, to name a few: IAnimatable, IAsyncResult, IDictionary<Klingon>, IDropTarget, IExpando, IHttpHandler, IIntellisenseBuilder, ILease, IProcessHost, IResourceProvider, ... More advanced models might even add IGoogle, IReflect :)

Well, just so long as it doesn't have an interface for a Pod..... or a Phone....

I ran across a couple of posts on CP today that requested new sections on robots and androids. Now, here's my question. What is the difference between an android and a robot?

There are only 10 types of people in this world — those who understand binary, and those who don't.

From dictionary.com[^]: Main Entry: an·droid Pronunciation: 'an-"droid Function: adjective of the pelvis : having the angular form and narrow outlet typical of the human male Just ignore all those pesky alternate definitions, they're only there to confuse the matter. No clue why you would think it would have _any_thing to do with robots, however..... :)

A robot is a machine. Android is a mobile operating system. ;P

A robot is a machine that performs tasks without human control/supervision. It may or may not have human form/shape. (see "HK") An android is a synthetic human ie made of flesh but manufactured to specification not cloned (see "Replicant"). A cyborg is a combination of both. (see "Terminator"). The word "robot" was invented by Karel Capek in his famous play RUR. This is confusing because the play is really about androids!!!
