Can any of you advice a good parential control software, to prevent children from viewing porn, and anything dubious. Its advice for a aunty of mine. She has AOL, but not sure how good the built in parential control is for AOL 8, compared to other programs on the market. Not sure what other good programs are out there. Look forward to your replys :-) --- Peter M

From what I have seen the best thing is to pay attention to what the kids are doing online. Sit beside them and surf together. Regardz Colin J Davies

I have heard that placing your modem cable's plug in a non-lubricated condom before plugging it into the wall socket can prevent unwanted porn, as well as preventing the spread of viri. I've never tried it myself though, I prefer the natural feel of plastic on plastic and besides - my modem and I are lifetime partners. Seriously though, taking a pair of scissors to the modem cable is the only sure fire way of doing that. All the software I have seen is absed on great ideas but usually blocks out all sorts of legit sites. Then again, I haven't really pushed them hard, my experiences is limitd to whatever was being used at my school and college.

From what I have read and seen, the parental controls in AOL 8.0 are pretty good. That should be adequate.

You have to remember that no software is 100% accurate in blocking these things. The best parental control to have is to make sure that the parent sits with the child whilst they are on the internet. Especially within AOL chatrooms and the like. Locate the computer in a 'common' area like the living room or kitchen. It physically places the computer in an appealing location but does not offer privacy, making it easier to see what's going on. Works for me and my kids.
