What Facebook features do you use?
-
I haven't spent much time on Facebook for my own purposes, but now I have a client requirement to automate posts of their articles onto their profile via Facebook's API. So, I brought up the site & have been browsing the RTFM Help section with either embarrassing ignorance or admirable zen-like beginner's mind, depending on your point of view. So, it appears that you can update your status on the Wall. Groovy I suppose, but doesn't seem to really be the best vehicle for posting an article on a Facebook profile. Events look useful, but not every article is an event. Of course, you can link to an article on your own site, but my current understanding is they want to post full articles on Fb. And then there are videos, photos, etc. What Facebook features do you guys use for presenting article sized text blocks?

Facebook... That's a website, right? I kid, I kid. Managed to avoid it so far, though.

I think "notes" are what you are looking for.

I'd post a note and add a notes tab to your profile page. A wall post will vanish pretty quickly for most people.

I haven't used the API, nor posted on Facebook other than directly. But typically, when you paste a link into the "Status" box, it attempts to parse the link for what it is, sometimes a YouTube video, news article etc. For the news article, it tends to automatically grab the headline, a portion of text from the article and photo (assuming there is one). It does that pretty quickly, just hit share.

An entire article (like a blog post or a CP article) on FB? The mind boggles. Why? :~ You could just post the link on FB - it even creates a nice preview with a thumbnail image. You _could_ convert the original article text to an image and post it in their profile, but nobody with an IQ greater than a carrot's would want that. Personally, I post status updates to my wall, and look at my homepage to see my friends' updates. That's about it.
Cheers, Vikram. (Got my troika of CCCs!)

Gave up on Orkut then? For some reason Orkut is popular in just India/Brazil, it's not very popular in the US except among Indian and Brazilian Americans. So it's not that useful for you as an advertising medium.

Funny name, Orkut. That name means it can never be popular in Dutch speaking countries, no one will take it seriously due to the "kut" in the name
