Regarding airline booking- Round trips vs one way?
-
Today while booking ticket in Lufthansa, It seems One way ticket to Frankfurt-Chennai is 2020 Euro whereas round trip in the same period is 630 Euros!! Can someone please explain the logic of airlines ticket charges based on the one or two way trip. I tried the same in another airlines Fly Emirates and it seems both oneway and round trip are same cost??:~

One way tickets fit a terrorist profile. They are charging you for the extra insurance they have to take out on the aircraft.

If it bothers you, always purchase a round-trip ticket. It will cost you less to buy two roundtrip tickets than it will to purchase a single one-way ticket.

And even booked a ticket that I never used, because of an offer "train-to-flight" it was cheaper to pay flight and train than only train (german DB is quite crazy as well)

May be, people never travel one-way internationally?:~ In my case,it was very special circumstances for the one way trip with lufthansa. We always used Emirates as it is cheap

Actually, for longer vacations I'd prefer to book a forking flight (different arrival than departure) - but about a decade ago this started to fall under "one way" rules. The last time I did get a reasonable flight (with Lufthansa, no less) was on about 2001 or 2002 - went to Portugal after a business trip to france by train, then returned by plane to Germany. Of course, people never travel one-way internationally

That's not comic it's tragic. It does forget to add that if the money you gave them to pay for the raw materials for the paint happen to go up at a point between you buying the paint and using it there will be a charge for that too. For some reason Airlines and comms companies work to a different set of rules from every other business under the sun.

Thats what I have done. I have booked the round ticket. No other options. :(

I wonder if you'll be able to cancel the 'return' ticket alone later?

The price of airline tickets is fictional, and its only purpose is to allow discounts. The latter depend on supply and demand. As rarely anybody needs a one way ticket, there's no substantial amount of demand. No demand means no reason for offering supply or  discount. And as a no-show for the return flight can't hurt you - you won't ask for a refund - you book a return flight as everybody else. That's the metaphysical purpose of such pricing policies: Do it as everybody else does. They'll love you for that!

Here in the US, there is a small airline called Sun Country. It started life as a charter only company but went into regular service a few years ago. It has very limited routes, and they only go to some destinations part of the year. However, if you are lucky enough to live near an airport they do serve AND need to go to one of the other places they go, there is no comparison. Every flight is one way. Round trip is simply two flights. The pricing varies per day, and does change frequently, but it is almost always the best price. I keep hoping other airlines will adopt this method, but the chances are very small.

A round trip is obviously planned. You know when you are leaving and you know when you are going to return. One way trips are often not as well planned and frequently last minute. If they know you are desperate to get somewhere and don't know or care when you are going to return they can charge you more. Or alternatively, if you don't care when you are going to return and are committing yourself to potential open-ended costs of meals and lodging away from home then cost may not be as big a factor for you and they can charge you more.

Simple. Just buy the round trip ticket, and cash it in when you get to your destination. If you can't, then sell it on EBay.
