He did say he was talking about office signatures.

Cheers, Vikram. (Got my troika of CCCs!)

hehe... The ones I hate the most are the environmental messages like "Please consider the environment before printing this email", which invariably cause the email to print a second page with just that one line!!

How many of you place a fancy, motivational, cool etc message at the end of official mail id? I personally hate it. I just keep my name and a contact number. That is it.

Actually I have an office, but it's at home, so it doesn't feel like one.

Ditto. I very seldom used to be in other people's offices at 6am, but I'm often in my home office at that time.

If somebody's just helped me, I replace "Cheers" with "Thanks" or "Many thanks". I really like Carpe Diem (Enjoy the present), it's short and to the point.

Office signature for internal mail just plain sucks. They are bashing us again and again about IT costs and how much storage costs, and they automatically add a 15 line signature to every one-liner you send out. Talk about being consistent :~

A "must use on pain of death" sig was distributed here, containing active links to graphics, javascript, and God-knows what else, so I ignored it. Death is preferable to that kind of humiliation.

Even worse, there is somebody at my work with a bunch of nonsense in the signature and a blue sky background (I think there are clouds). I sent an email like that to a computer science teacher before I even got to my college and he set me straight real quick like. I have two office signatures. One is a standard 4 lines or so (name, contact info, company, title), but replies have a single-line signature (a compressed version of the 4 lines, minus some info). The idea is that my long signature serves as an introduction to anybody who doesn't know me, and the single-line signature is a reminder so they don't have to go sorting through all the emails I sent them to find my contact information. Motivational messages in a professional email just make the person seem unprofessional, so I don't do it.

But you know, if you use smaller font, that takes up less discspace. :)

Actually, it might! Consider the case with an HTML format email, where a span has the (obsolete) font tag with a size spec of "12". Decrease the font to "9", and you've just halved your storage claim for that string part alone! ;)
