Time again for all of the great prime-time television (I can't even say that with a straight face Smile ) gets replaced with dull sporting events, huh?

Lucky for us, NBC hasn't had any great prime-time television for years.

Except for Heroes :) Wait, that's on at 9pm... Is that still considered prime-time?

So you want to benefit from all the work the television stations do to televise the Olympics, but you aren't prepared to support them in any way?

Unfortunately today, Nodar Kumaritashvili died during a Luge run, there is video of it, though most sites either refuse or have been restricted from showing it. It's a very gruesome video, hitting a steel post at 90mph, and some still pictures are also out there...his helmet did nothing to save him. May the Lord rest his soul in Peace... :(( :((

No, I don't think it is. I think it's a reasonable question to ask someone who appears to want to get something for nothing. As a software developer, you earn your living by creating intellectual property, don't you? But you haven't answered the question. It's a simple question... Yes or no? If you expect to get something for free, just say so. And while you're at it, would you care to explain why you think it's "assine"?

If you go back and read Marc's post, you'll notice that he says 'commercial-free'. That means he doesn't want to watch commercials. It says nothing about his willingness to pay for the Olympic material.

Because 1) If I went down to Radio Shack and bought a little HD TV for about $90, I could watch the Olympics "for free" on the airwaves, 2) because when commercials come on, I would hit the mute button and pick up a book or pet the cat or put out the trash or whatever, so I wouldn't be watching the commercials (now if you are insinuating that I actually watch the commercials as my "payment" then we move from the asinine to the insane) and 3) my buying habits are such that I don't buy 99.99% of the products advertised and 4) the cost of the advertisement is already priced into the product so, even if I were to buy the product, I'm paying my share of the advertising costs. and, most importantly: 5) if someone is going to broadcast something for me, my neighbor, and the slime mold on the next star to watch for free, I have no moral or ethical obligation to watch it in the format or with all the content that they are providing. I have not entered into a legal contract with the broadcaster, so I therefore am free of all obligations as to what I choose to do with the content. Nor, by the way, am I violating the copyright on the content, because I'm not copying it. I wasn't looking for an illegal source of commercial free broadcasts, I was wondering if one of the broadcast companies provided a more comprehensive and commercial free webcast. Does that help? Marc

What difference does that actually make? If I'm watching the Olympics to see incredible feats of athleticism I don't care if the people are making money off their efforts. The pro status makes a lot of sense for some of those sports anyway. You would have to pay me to do curling. No way I'm sweeping in front of overweight tea pots if I'm not being paid to. I'd be pro right from the start. On the other hand though, the ski jump would be far more entertaining if the people involved were rank amateurs...

As someone who curled in a local league when I lived in a city where there was almost literally nothing else to do in the winter and the temperature was regularly -40 I can tell you that there is actually a *lot* of drinking involved in curling and it was a blast. :)

So if a downhill skier falls during the race and breaks his/her leg and screams in the most utterly horrifying voice and no body is watching...

I refuse to watch it otherwise. ;) Oh, and I don't have a TV, so it'd have to be over the Internet. Marc

It's called a PVR; you record the evening and then skip all the commercials and talking heads and watch the ten minutes of sports events they finally, and apparently very reluctantly, show.

And you can't do #2 when you're watching an internet broadcast? That is, hit the mute button on your player, and read a book in the meantime? So many gripes. Just sit back and enjoy life.
