Paper, pencil and thought. This is not being flippant, no mater how good the code tool is, you must design properly first.

A large whiteboard is my favourite.

My postings are a natural product. The slight variations in spelling and grammar enhance their individual character and beauty and are in no way to be considered flaws or defects.

I have to agree with this. I do most of my web design in raw HTML and CSS (why send 10k of code for 500 bytes of layout?), and a pencil, eraser and a few sheets of graph paper are all the UI tools I need. For app programming, I've found the Visual Studio IDE to be perfectly adequate.

I couldn't agree more. Nor, frankly, do I think most programmers have the temperament, skills, or training needed to design a UI.

Have another 5, I need to send this to my project lead.... Functionality, layout even, not a problem, eye candy, get a DESIGNER. I am a great proponent of battleshit grey.

No. Why? Is it a Navy term?

In the Navy, and most other arms of the military, if there is a simple substitution that can change something into a curse, it invariably happens. If you live around that gray for a while, you either come to love it or hate it, or both

No, my father was. He passed a disparaging comment in the early 90s when he saw the results of my UI design and it stuck with me ever since.

So you grew up all over? Before high school, I had spent more time in SEA then in the US.

Ah! Great, I've learned a new obscure swear word. Even Google doesn't give more than a couple of hits (or should it be sh*ts?)
