Why don't you "hire" a Telstra technician to setup your system ? I'm certain they offer that service. With all the ranting and moaning and bitching, I would think it is cheaper and you will know it will work.

It's actually not possible. And even then, I don't see how they can make their software work if I can't.

Most modems are made for consumption in the U.S. market. Because of this they are manufactured to run right-side up in the Northern Hemisphere face-first. Turn your modem upside down and rotate horizontally 180 degrees and it will work as expected.

*sigh* I wish. My inlaws are on internode on my recommendation. I used them when I lived in suburbia. Telstra wireless is my only broadband option.

At least it _REALLY_shows that it's not your problem but theirs, if the cannot render the service that you paid for according to the contract you both signed, then you could sue them. Or go to the media. There is probably a few "consumer rights" shows or newspaper that could use a couple of nice stories to help you resolve all of this.

My new modem comes with new software. The Mac version LOOKS connected, but after a brief amount of time, it will in fact stop receiving any data, will not recognise the modem if I unplug and reconnect, and basically will be useless until I reboot. If I call support, they won't offer meaningful support to the Mac version, I doubt they even have seen a Mac in real life.

Hey, it could be worse. When my daughter was three, I had to sing the following before she would go to bed: 4 complete repetitions of the 'Barney' theme song, followed by 4 complete repetitions of 'Itsy-Bitsy Spider'. You have no idea of what hell is like, until you're on the second verse of iteration 2 of the 'Barney' theme song after a day spent with a whining QA bonehead, you now have a migraine, you're trying to skip a verse, and your daughter catches you at it.

And I did that joke last year regarding Windows expecting the bits in your boot sector to be in the Northern Hemisphere orientation, but found them in the Southern Hemisphere orientation instead. It's an old joke and I think you'll keep hearing it.
