No kidding. Oracle is loved by DBA's as it keeps them employed! As far as a database, it's fairly poor. We are ready to dump oracle for good and move to SQLServer for all backend apps.

First some background. I work from 7:30 to 4:45 every day, come home and look after the kids and cook dinner, my wife comes home at 6:30. The kids go to bed at 7:30 and after reading stories, etc, I generally sit down and work on projects I have at home. My wife has three jobs, and works very hard. So we decided with last Thursday being show day here, we would take Friday off and go away for the weekend. Donna had to work Thursday morning, so we said we'd take the kids to the show thursday afternoon. My 2 year old son, Calvin, started vomiting at mid-day Thursday. I held him while he vomited all over me for three hours ( yes, I cleaned up, but it kept on coming ), and then my wife came home. I took Hannah to the show, we got there at about 4:30. They took my $20, THEN told me they closed at 6:00. On show day. Not a big deal as it happens, rising public liability costs are probably the reason the show was so dead this year. He seemed better Friday, so lunch time we finally left to go north. Suffice it to say he had liquid coming out of both ends all weekend, and then on Sunday on the way home, Hannah spewed about three times her body mass in the car. It's monday here, and I am home looking after her. The good news though is that I had another article accepted by Windows Developers Mag, on C# and XML. And as Hannah is mostly watching TV, I am finishing my Asteroids game ( http://graus.dns2go.com/Asteroids ), it has rough collision detection, which I am now making pixel perfect, then I will add shots, and finally the high score table. I'll post again when it gets fully playable, so that everyone can tell me all the stuff that does not work. So how was everyone else's weekend ? Went to a halloween party Friday night with the girlfriend. Worked both Saturday and Sunday all day both, however since we were so slow I was able to read 88 pages of Applied .NET Framework Programming from Mr. Richter. Thread coming tomorrow from me on the first two chapters, it's a joy. :-D Nick Parker

I was involved with commisioning a study of this a dozen years ago for the capital shows. We came to a conclusion that the turnout was proportional to the economic confidence of Mr and Mrs Aussie Public. What was interesting was that this also affected the turnout of teens. You might wonder why anyone would study this. Basically for some of the larger exhibitionists it is real important that they invest at the show on a Boom year and other years it's better to sell there expensive prebooked space to others. We started doing survies for The Easter Show and Melbourne show in the eighties and were less than 1% out for the gate. This gave us a big advantage over our competitors. Another thing we discovered is that the show society never publishes true figures. ( RORT ) Regardz Colin J Davies

This one isn't Tux's fault. It's MySQL AB's fault. They promised the release of 4.x in December 2001. They are just now doing beta testing. I couldn't justify waiting around when there are already other database products out there with all of the features I need. Sure, I realize that MS has slipped schedules (who hasn't), but as I said, in this case it didn't make sense to wait. Besides, Linux is for #@)!_(@[^]. :-D (only kidding) Jon Sagara The world is my burrito.

Now, I'm no expert, but I think pengiun heart is closer to Bald Eagle heart that Spotted Owl. Meeting with new bank REALLY early on Saturday morning. rest of Saturday was consumed by the generic weekend do-anything-but-work void. Sunday: brother's 32 birthday. Things I didn't do, funnily enough: washing up, laundry, tidy house, install tape drive and new stiffy disk. :~ Next weekend, I'm sure I'll do it. I spent the weekend clearing up the house and packing (Karen was away). Certainly not the way I'd choose to spend my last weekend with my family, but that's the way it goes I guess. I had a couple of friends helping (so we had three kids to look after instead of two - it was pretty loud at times!) which helped a lot. We did have a bit of excitement yesterday morning when the back fence (which is 6ft high) blew down...fortunately a friend braced it up for me, and the damage isn't as bad as it appeared. I did miss Church as a result though. :( This morning I left the house for the last time - from now on I'm just a visitor. It hasn't hit yet, but it will soon. I'm lucky in that my colleagues at work understand the situation and do everything they can to cheer me up when I'm low! Anna :rose: "Be yourself - not what others think you should be"

Was passenger to a car from Montreal to Ottawa to watch over 4 hours of TV publicity in a movie theater with few other hundred people, slept, drove back to montreal yesterday! See my other earlier post for more detail! Max.
